Default Tennis needs a "Bad Boy" to revive it's low status

When I say "Bad boy", what I am saying is simply telling the truth, Fed, Murray, etc. all LIE, and false humility is a lie.

When Fed was losing to Murray, he was swearing the entire time, "F....K", then getting in his face, but then in the interview it's "Oh I'm playing fine, want to work out more, looking forward to this year", what BS! Why did he not simply tell the truth "When I was 25 I would have wiped the court with Murray", I like class, but lies are not class.

We need another Mcenroe, remember, take Wimbledon, they called him a "Punk", "Spoiled Brat", but next year he had engendered himself to them and they LOVED HIM!

We need a Ali or Tyson in Tennis, that's the only reason Tennis is a second rate sport, you can predict what players will say when they win or lose, tell me if this is not the phony scripts "Andy, you lost today, how do you feel", "Well, my congradulations to Novak, he played a great game, if I work harder I'll hope to have a better year", this stuff drives me nuts!

People don't realize that throught the 60's, Ali was HATED, people would show up to see him lose. I mean, think about it, Ali thought AND STILL THINKS white men are devils and that blacks and whites should be segregated, yet every birthday or what have you they are doing some ceremony for this great man! Same deal Tyson, people loved to hate him, and guess what? He sold out stadiums to see what would happen. Larry Holmes on the other hand was as good as both, but took the tennis script, "Well I'm glad I won, my jab was really working today", BORING, and LIES.

Maybe Tomic is onto something, THINK, how much press did he get? Why? Because it's human drama, at least he doesn't lie, he thinks he can beat Fed, he thinks tennis is easy, etc. At least he's not faking it.

We need an honest person, doesn't even have to be a bad boy. If they interviewed me after I lost, I'd tell the truth. I would love to see some guy say "Roger Federer thinks he can whup me, man he must be crazy" if he thought that way.

Think, when is the last time you saw a tennis star on the cover of SI, or any magazine, or even the news? The sport is dying, which means less amateurs and less of a pool of players, it's all foreign countries now, and no hero's.

Nadal could have pulled this off, animal player, yet you interview him and he takes his cue card lies and says "Well federer is best", come on, what if he said "I'll destroy Federer wherever I see him", man that would create controversy, REAL drama, and the press would eat it up.

Sorry, I'm just SO TIRED of boring players with boring personalities, we need stars. Fed was so great that he was able to have his racquet do the talking, but how many can? I watch a robotic like Djokovich read the script and I feel insulted.

If you expect something like this to happen in tennis again, you've got a LONG wait ahead of you.

I would just switch sports if I were you.

Yea, but why? I know Tennis is a "Blue Blood" sport, but COME ON, Mcenroe generated tremendous interest

I don't think tennis is dying at all. It's just that American tennis is in the dumps right now with NO ONE in even the top 20 I think. That kid Ryan Harrison is a hothead and not much else. The reality is that, over the last 50 years, ALL SPORTS have gotten more civil and politically correct. The only way to get back to Ali and so on is to take away all the sponsorship money. It's the sponsorships ($$$) that makes all these athletes be so PC. Look at Tiger Woods and how much $$$ in sponsorship earnings he lost when it was found out he was banging cocktail waitresses left and right. Sure we loved reading about it but if you were he and you just lost $100 million of future earnings (maybe even more) I think you'd learn to shut up and say "I just didn't play well enough, credit to him" too.

I wish it was like that too. Nastase, Connors, all those guys had personality. Unfortunately, and forget about the "gentleman's sport" stuff, tennis, and by association the ATP and WTA, is a corporate entity. That's why you have no surface speed variations, etc... anymore. It's bland due to the over corporatizing of sports in general.

and, as Linda Richmann would say.. Discuss!

Again, I'll say it. After the AO, we didn't finish it, went to Foxnews.com, under the sports section I think it was like number 4, AO over, boring story.

Again, why don't we see Federer or Novak or whoever you love on the front of Sports Illustrated. Look at the chick, forget her name, she's on the front, all of a sudden interest, movies, all the rest.

Mcenroe at least had enough athenticity to have his own MSNBC show, can you imagine Murray doing that? "Well, welcome, uh, like, uh, everything is great, uh....."

We, on this forum, are genuine personalities for the most part, like it or not, some guys are hot heads, some cool and poised, but we are HONEST, this forum is more interesting than who we are talking about.

Tennis is in a slump, US? Absolutely, but why? There are no hero's, Roddick wins a GS and he is like "Well yea it was a honor to play today, my serve was working............." WHERE'S THE PERSONALITY? Bad, good, but at least genuine, we are the blue bloods who get upset if someone says a bad word.

Don't misunderstand, I dislike, big time, bad language, acting poorly, that doesn't mean I don't want them to not be themselves, that is be honest.

Thank you miss Richmann! Yea, Nastase was a entertainer, why do we know about him? He was outrageous. Or Conners walking across the court to get in Macs face and tell him to shut up, that is priceless.

On TennisChannel, they have the "Top 5", it always involves controversy, but what contraversy, "Oh my goodness, he looked at the judge with a bad look, my goodness". I'm a Christian, I realize sin is in the world, I just wish we would stop faking like it doesn't exist and tell the truth.

i understand what you're saying, but let me add this...mcenroe's "authenticity" provided the worst cable news talk show i've ever seen and that is saying something...somebody forgot that mcenroe for all the praise he gets as a broadcaster has a lot of trouble stringing words together in a timely and entertaining fashion...it was the absolute pits of talk shows....off the subject a bit i know, but you brought it up and i had to respond...i'm still haunted by the time i devoted to the show trying to be a good tennis fan trying to do my part to broaden the sport

I thought I said that, the POINT is that they picked him, why? Because of ratings, everyone knows who Mac is! Ask anyone, they know, we need that in Tennis.

It's interesting when they asked Mac about his antics, he said "I just thought that's how you act, we did in NY, I never thought there was anything controversial about it at the time", paraphrase of course, but the point is that he was AUTHENETIC! Can we REALLY say these guys speak their minds?

Yea that one guy hit a good point, they worry about sponsers, but sponsers are into money, and if they get more press, it's more times people will see the W, or the Mercedes or Nike logo! Remember these sponsers are a bunch of non tennis playing junkheads who think we are all blue bloods, let a player prove them wrong.

Look at the die hards on this forum, they will call you names if you don't like their player or idea, actually call you stupid or whatever for disagreeing, trust me Tennis needs someone who stands out.

OK, this answer wins the prize. I realize you are being sarcastic, but be honest, WOULD YOU EVER, EVER, EVER MISS A MATCH? EVEN IF YOU WEREN'T INTERESTED IN TENNIS?
