Default What technique do you use when pulling strings through?

I was watching the pro stringing room at the brisbane international recently and when they pull strings through they all use their fingers to alleviate the friction!

I tried doing that it burned my fingers, unless I'm missing something on the technique. Do they use their nails? I couldn't quite see.

I just use one of the tools when I do it. It is a little fiddly though

I think you saw fanning. If you move the untensioned string away from the tensioned string it's easier to pull through, especially if you weave one ahead.

One simpler way to do this is to weave your cross and then hold the end in your right hand (if you're right handed) while you pull up on the weaved string from the middle of the mains up to the 12 o'clock position. What should happen is that you're keeping tension on the string on the right side with your right hand and then the pulling up with your left to the 12 o'clock position pulls in more string into the bed. Then pull out on the right and repeat. After a while it'll go quicker.

That is, if I'm understanding what you were asking here, since this is how normal stringing should be of the crosses so as not to burn your mains.

Remember, you don't pull the string with your right UNTIL after you've pulled more into the stringbed area with your left finger(s). Then you won't burn your fingers. And if you are burning your fingers, then you're pulling the crosses all wrong and too fast anyway.

If it burns your fingers you are pulling too fast. Tink about what the strings are doing to the strings.
