How to measure grip size?

So I ordered a couple of Blade Lite with grip size 1 but when I received them the grip feels much more thicker compared to another grip 1 racquet that I have. So I wanted to know how to measure the actual grip size and is the grip size reported by the manufacturer with replacement grip on or without it. Strangely the racquets arrived with no mention of grip size either on the butt cap or on the throat as it generally is.
