The beast!
In this article, Bodo is sipping at that Jo-Dubz kool-aid, and I'm right there at the pump with him. This lion is ready to come to the fore now I believe - he ain't never #1 or #2 standard, but he's got a Grand Slam in him I'm sure of it, now he's got Rasheeeeeed in his corner. Also, he called out the girls for being 'unstable' because of 'hormones'. Take that. This cat not scared of no one. Is Jo most likely to win a Slam out of the 'also rans'? |

My take while watching the match with Fed, is that he really doesn't have the hunger for it. My reading is that the focus is missing. he gets too distracted during points, his mind wanders and he's smiling about off-court stuff. You dont see Ralph or Fred doing that. Or Noel. Again he was not devastated after losing --- i doubt Federer would have been laughing and joking after losing to him. Seems Jo's happy with what he's earned, and his "good life" and the ladies. Hope I am wrong, but that's my reading.

He *knows* why the women are losing, yet can't figure out himself? I wonder if Tsonga will ever be included in those lists of "greatest player to never win a slam"...?

He's on the cusp, I think he will take the USO.

I'm on this too...It would be nice for him to get it together. A joy to watch.

Tsonga has the ability to take out a Big 4 in a slam, he's done it several times. He just needs someone else to take care of another for him. Imagine if Tsonga met Berdych or Ferrer in a slam final. I'd definitely go with Jo.

He is extremely fun to watch and I like him as a player. Hopefully he can break through at a slam, but I dont think it will happen.

JWT is a really, really good (and entertaining) player, but I don't see what he can do to consistently challenge the top guys and be a consistent Slam contender. He relies on firepower, which is difficult to maintain for match ofter match without having a really "off" match, and the top guys play such good defense, in addition to their offense.

Tsonga needs to be able to bring his A game for 3 matches in a row (quarters, semis, finals) in order to win. I don't think it's impossible, but seems really difficult for someone who's been so inconsistent. Here's hoping the new coach has something to say about that though!

I saw positive signs from Tsonga this Australian Open, his backhand and return looked better and overall he looked quicker around the court. I think his work with Roger Rasheed is already paying off and he can get to #5 this season.

In 12 majors since AO 2010, Tsonga has 3 semi finals and 4 quarter finals. A French Open choke and last year's US Open are his only major slip ups. He seems consistent enough to get to the quarters most of the time.

If Federer doesn't win Wimbledon, then nothing would give me more pleasure than to see Tsonga win it instead.

I see no reason why he can't be majorly competitive at Wimbledon '13 or '14; I think he could beat Federer, and then probably Murray as well. I guess he might have to meet Nole on a slightly off day, but it could happen.
That said, I think he really needs to concentrate on winning another 1000 this year, 5 years since he won his only Masters title; in Paris. Wonder if he could do Paris/IW this year. Last edited by Duncan Bell : 01-30-2013 at 11:09 PM. |
