YONEX TENNIS RACQUET RQIS 1 TOUR XL- 95 opinions please?

Hi,

A friend basically gave me a couple of RQiS Tour 95 Xl racquets, great guy!!

I played with them tonight, and really liked them..

I was wondering how others felt about this racquet? In particular the power level (whether to lead it up or not??), and also the general feel.. Loved the spin potential, and got a bit of pop from my serves.. My 1HBH was solid as a rock, my forehand was a bit shaky, but I am coming back into tennis, so thats fine..

I learned that the XL was for extra lite, I didn't find it that way.. Quite head light, still when timing a shot well, my shots were nice and deep, with a bit of oommf along the way, I do swing reasonably quick I'm guessing!!

I love playing from baseline, yet finishing off ponts at net was also solid..

Love to read other thouhts on this racquet.

XL would mean Xtra Large so maybe an inch longer than normal.
BTW, if you have such good experience with this racket, why bother to find out what others think about it.....

I thought it was extra lite, as racquet is 27 inch length...

Yes I like the racquets but would like views on my original posting re power and lead taping ??

^^^yeah, i'm pretty sure its standard length so i thing the xl stands for extra light but whatever.

this is my main stick. i've used it for a couple of years now and i'll probably use it for the forseeable future. people i've hit with (who know what they're doing) have commented to me about the "heavy balls" i'm hitting (they haven't said that when i've used other racquets) so i think it's got pretty good access to spin. i like to use it especially when i play outdoors because i agree it does have some nice amount of pop on everything (especially when a/b-ed with the rqis tour 1, which currently serves as my indoor stick). i left the rds003 because it seemed like too much power. the rqis tour 1 has a bit more control in my opinion but i usually need more pop hitting into the wind or in heavy conditions so for me the xl tour is somewhat of a happy medium between the two. i've never felt outgunned when using the xl but i have using the tour 1. my serve loved it when i bumped down to a 95 because it seemed like my placement improved a ton. there's just something magical about working that wide serve and then BOOM! down the t in your 3rd or 4th service game. i can't say i throw alot of heat on the serve but i can hit a really nice spin serve with this racquet and hit my spots very well.

i LOVE mine strung with yonex 850 tour string (@ 60#) but your mileage may vary. i think it tames the frame just enough.

btw, what grip are you using on your fh?

Hey Vandre, I use semi western forehand, with an extreme backhand 1hbh..

The grip is a leather Yonnex standard grip.. Just curious my friend played with it for close to a year, and hadn't replaced either leather grips.. Assuming that this grip is a standard leather Yonnex grip, makes me wonder how long do these grips last, theres only minimal wear and tar, and he plays 2-3 times a week..Either way, I'm liking it.

Anyway, had a hit against a wall today, again it felt awesome.. Only thing I am wondering is whether to get some lead around the frame, it does feel a little light.. Do u have , or have u tried it with this racquet, I know u mentioned about how happy u are overall with it.. My serve has a bit of pop I guess already, but looking at perhaps getting that bit more, and also for back of the court perhaps..

Well this is the classic racquet group so I would recommend you change for a pc600 or max 200g

Hey Joe when I was a teenager I owned a Dunlop 200 g max pro awesome stick.. Definatley have a soft spot for dunlops ..

Thanks for additional info re racquet...

Going out today to buy some lead for racquets and have fun making little tweaks here and there... Just give it a little more swing weight as it feels very headlight .. Could be me as I was using a 350 g racquet before getting my pair of RQS 1 tour 95 XP's..

hey leftie, aside from an overgrip and a rubber band, my xls are all stock: i've never added any lead or anything else for weight to them. on other sticks, i've add a little bit to the top of the hoop (12oclock) to help with serves primarily. let me know what you do and how it works because i might steal it!!!

btw, if you have "wee ones" or aren't comfortable with lead, babolat makes tungsten strips to use instead. i use it on racquets my 2 year old is liable to run off with or stick in his mouth. it is more expensive and requires you to be more creative (i put head guard tape over it because the adhesive backing isn't that good) but if you want a non-toxic option, its out there. cheers!

Hey Vandre, went out yesterday, bought some magnetic tape... I went a little crazy

with it!!! Yes I have 3 "wee" ones at home, but couldn't find lead at local hardware, tennis pro shop closed, hence magnetic tape, and will keep kids right away from it for sure when I do get lead!!

I kinda of began putting 3 and 9 O'clock, upped the static weight to aroud 350, before adding a few inch to the top at 12, ringing the weight up to 372g.. OMG!! What have I done..

I'm going to have a hit with it hopefully tomorrow.. Just by swinging it around the house, it feels like it's going to crush the ball.. Anyway, see how I feel after a couple of hours having a hit.. It may be way too much above what I can handle.. I'm only 70kg slim build 5'10"!! but strong despite my size!

It's going to be a fun expiriment I think.. Anti inflamms on standby lol!

Had a hit today with 372g racquets... Basic obsevations.

1. definately more power from baseline from both sides.
2. slightly off centered hits didn't suffer as much from baseline.
3. volleys, no probs.Still manouvreable, overheads are a bit harder though.
4. played for 2 hours +, no noticeable difference in terms of fatigue.. only slim build, found this to be the biggest positive.
5. serves, were harder generating racquet head speed, early days I guess.Really have to focus on technique on serves to get rythm right, and be relaxed.
6. preparation of racquet early and getting into a strong position when hitting ball is a must.

Overall, quite happy with my little additions, will continue for a few weeks with it, and give it some time..

Wondering how others have found leading up racquet to heavy static weight level? Love all thoughts on this.

Best racquet ever. Put a leather grip on it, other than that in stock form. Every part of my game has improved.

Hey Brian,it is great in the little time that I have had it... Weighted it up, but after playing again this morning, took about 10g off total weight. Too hard to put that extra bit on serves..

I have got the Yonnex standard cushion grip on it, feels nice.

That extra weight at 12 o'clock really has given me plenty of plow, just have to work at tehnique to be consistant in controlling it.. Practise, practise,practise..

I just find the balance perfect as is...(well, with the leather grip, it's a bit more headlight than stock.) I even added a little lead tape to 11 and 1 on my black/red RQISes to match the balance of the RQIS XLs.
