Default Has anyone ever won a tournament without double faulting?

Looking at AO stats today, I saw Murray has only hit one double fault the entire tournament and I thought that was pretty impressive. It got me thinking, has anyone in history ever won a tournament without double faulting?

Murray has only double faulted once in the entire tournament so far. I'm wondering if anyone has won a tournament without double faulting.

Not sure, but I bet there are at least couple out there. Mats Wilander comes to mind, a very good player that got the first serve in all the time to start the point. Very few opportunities for double faults to crop up.

Don't know about the DF question but I do recall seeing an Agassi match back in the 90s where he did not even "single fault" on his serve. He had just come back from a wrist injury and was taking it a bit easy on his serves. Fairly certain, but not absolutely sure, that he hit 100% of his serves in and still won the match.

I wouldn't be surprised if Edberg did it.

So Murray has only 2 doubles through 6 matches.

does anyone know how that compares with other slam finalists/winners over the years?

ATP only started keeping serve stats in '91, not sure I've seen a major winner serve so few doubles since then, maybe Agassi?

Tennis had limited tv coverage(and limited statisticians) in the 80s so I really have no idea about Borg, Wilander, etc(only saw semis & finals for many of their wins)

and Murray has 71 aces. what a great ratio.

Murray finishes with 7 df's in 7 matches.

Nadal won '08 French with 5 df's(can't seem to find one lower than that in a major in recent years)

Better question: highest ace/double fault differential in a grand slam?

0 double faults in a whole tournament is not something necessarily good.

For example, I don't expect Goran having 0 DF in a tournament, because his second serve was so potent, with such spin and well placed that it is impossible for him to not DF many times in a whole tournament.

On the other hand, his super-aggresive second serve gave him totally the command of the points (if not the point directly because of it being an unreturned second serve), so it was a good strategy for him even if he double-faulted 10 times per match or so on average.

Safin must be up there, he hit 99 aces & only 7 df's at the '05 AO.

And he played 26 sets that year so he had more chances to df than more dominant slam winners.

Didn't Ivanisevic hit over 200 aces in 2001 Wimbledon? He probably hit a lot of DF's as well (that final game ), but his differential should still be very good.

Edit: 212 aces and 58 DF's = 154 (I did a quick count, so I could've made a mistake)

I doubt anyone beats that. In fact, I'm not even sure anyone else hit over 154 aces in 1 tournament.

He had only 2 in 6 matches, then, suddenly, he had 5 in the finals....clutch! The first 2, I remember, were at 40-0, and of no consequences. The ones after that, well, that was a different story....

Davydenko.....he just push the ball in just to start the rally. Recent years his serve has improved to 130 mph.....before it was a crap.

i didn't find anything comparable in his slam runs...

but i also found a 106-2 (ace-DF) record for karlovic when winning stockholm in 2007... in only 4 matches !
(roddick played 5 matches when winning lyon 2005)
... 34-0 and 30-0 in 1st two matches !
