I'm curious. I've become a big Ferrer fan as of lately. Tennis commentators on TV frequently talk of Ferrer's height as being 5'9. I would bet money he's no more than 5'7. Anyone ever met him or seen him play in person?

I saw him practice at cincy 2012 so I was right next to him and I don't think he is 5'9. I'm about 6'2 and I would say he is around 5'7.

Hmmm, there's plenty of pics of him with other pros, from the pics I've seen of him with Roger Federer, he isn't too much shorter, he comes up to about the top of Federers ears, and assuming the space from the top of Feds ears to the top of his head is about 4 inches, thennn 5'9 seems pretty spot on, but if anything he is not shorter then 5'8 at the least, his not slim/slender his quite wide so maybe that makes him look short, if anyone's shorter then their listed height I'd say it's janko tipsarevic, listed as 6'0 but when he played Hewitt at this years Aus open he looked almost 2 inches shorter then hewitt when they shook hands, and if hewitts 5'11, then Janko is..

I don't know what's the deal with people on this forum, but it's an obsession around here to subtract at least 2-4 inches from every pros height.
Ferrer is definitely around 5 ft 9. |

I don't think Fred is frauding his height, I mean look at pics of him with Murray and Djoker, he appears almost the same height, Nadals definitely frauding by a quarter inch! |

![]() Ferrer is 5 ft 9. Ferrero is 6 ft. Djokovic is 6 ft 2. Fact is, there is no way Ferrer is 5 ft 7. Last edited by Sid_Vicious : 02-04-2013 at 08:52 PM. |

The billed heights of athletes in many sports, just like with public figures in general (musicians, actors) are not officially measured, and therefore publicly embellished.
You can look at these pictures of the top eight with David Cameron, whose supposedly 6'0.5 http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/R...mfJX8fU_8l.jpg http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/R...q3Na86RY-l.jpg Murray is standing a bit awkward there, but NO WAY is there a full 2.5 inches between them. In truth, all ATP players probably have their billed heights bumped 1-2 inches. Ferrer is probably 5'7-5'8. |

It depends on if they are measured with or without shoes on. There's your 1-2 inch difference.

![]() But who knows. Chris Paul probably lied to the NBA about his height as well and is actually 5 ft 9-5 ft 10, right? Roddick is probably only 6 ft 0 tall. While Dwayne Wade is 6 ft 1 max. I swear, these liars. ![]() Djokovic (6 ft 2) with Derrick Fisher (6 ft 1) ![]() Conclusion: These guys are all liars who are insecure about their heights. |

Errybody lies about their height in the NBA - shorter or taller to play the position they want and to try and improve draft stock.

Ferrer looks 5-9 to me. He's wide which makes him look shorter. Similarly Rafa looks a lot taller and slimmer than he does on camera, and you can see he's tall in person whereas on camera because he looks wide you don't get that. If he was shorter than 5-9 I really don't think he'd be able to compete, every inch below 5-11 in tennis seems like a handicap in the modern game, as does every inch over about 6-2.

I've also met him and he was barely shorter than me - so 5'7'' is too short imo. 5'9'' would be about right imo. I'm pretty sure I would easily notice if someone was 5 inches shorter than me.

I don't think pictures as relative to other people or objects are useful, depending on the angle you could easily be 6 inches taller or shorter. This is what they do with Tom cruise and Will Smith a lot.
Also if you measure the height in the morning you are generally about an 3/4 inch taller because of the relaxed spine, it's always talked about at the NFL draft combine. Add shoes to that(I know most people take them off) that's 2 inches. |

I've never met any of them, but I'd assume most ATP pro's underestimate their height. They're professional sportsmen in a height-orientated game.
They probably get measured at the age of 15, then grow - but haven't updated it. |

Trouble is when comparing to other people we don't that their heights are accurate. So instead get pics of a pro standing next to the net or another object of known height. Make sure the bottom of the net is shown. The net is exactly 3ft. high. You can extrapolate the true player height from there. For example, if he is less than double the net height, than he is less than 6 ft., right?
