I have a good middle states ranking, but not national. I thought for qualifying tournaments mostly take anyone who signs up...

First they take people with ATP points, then national rank.

If the draw isn't full then they take whomever is left.

I looked at the past few qualifying draws and many of the players did not have national rankings....

If you win and get to the second round; I think you get one point and are ranked in the 1,000. At least that was the case back 5 years ago. If you win the tournament you get 5 points.

Yeah if you win one round, you get one point, one point puts you like 1500-1900 in the world.

It wouldn't hurt to play a few Nationals, and sectional champs to bolster your top 500 list position so that you will be accepted into the qualifying draws.

It would be silly to travel to futures without a national ranking and possibly get turned down because the draw is full.

It is usually a two year process to play the circuit.

My friend Chris , who is 900 in the world, said that usually those who do not have national rankings get into the qualifying draws. If I can't get into a particular draw, I will just wait for one that I can. I'm not opposed to traveling a bit to find a draw that is open.

You obviously favor your forehand and your videos show you hitting about %95 forehands. With that backhand if yours, trust me, in a futures match you won’t see a single forehand the entire match. I would like to see a video of you playing games or tiebreak’s against your top 1000 ranked friends instead of beating up on a 4.0 in 11s. Regardless, good luck! It should be a good experience for you

OP would most likely crush TonLars and bagel most top tier 4.5s in Queens section.

I did not last two minutes watching that first video because it should have been edited...there's way too much discontinuity. I felt like I was watching new ball feeds every ten seconds, and not enough actual stroking.

All $10,000 Futures have a 128-draw qualifying tourney. The eight winners of the fourth round get entry to main draw. Sign-up is Thursday afternoon and the draw is made with seeding going to players based on ranking points. You do not need a national ranking to sign up and very rarely will anywhere close to the entire qualifying field have ATP points. Quite often, the 128-draw is not totally full but when there are more than 128 guys at sign-up, a random draw of non-ranked players is made to determine who the odd players out will be.

From my personal experience, the range of playing levels for qualifiers is very extreme. There are a lot of bagels and breadsticks scattered throughout the scoresheet for the first round. By "money day" (Monday is the R4 play day), you see the levels evening up and get some tight matches between seasoned players.

Good luck, i always think if you have talent why not go for it. There is a lot of good players i know of but they don't seem to want to compete in any semi-major tournaments. Shame really as they are really good and could make $1,000s
