I did a great exercise with a group of Elite coaches from various different Olympic and Paralympic disciplines the other week to illustrate exactly how effective that process can be!

Cheers[/QUOTE]

Ash,

i´d like to hear more about that exercise if you have the time.

Basically Trebs, the coaches had to pair up to teach each other a skill from their own sport (could be any discreet skill of their own choosing). Before starting they had to write down all the key technical teaching points they would use when teaching, all their best technical jargon. Then just before starting their teaching, they were told they couldn't use any of the words or phrases on the paper. Some found this particularly difficult as it forced them to find alternative ways of communicating and imparting their information. Was good fun to challenge and be challenged in this way!

Cheers

sounds like an interesting challenge.
i remember a few years ago i had a group of beginners to teach.
when i arrived at the club, there was deafening noise from heavy machines. instead of my usual explanations, i had to resort to showing them what i wanted them to do. we had a lot of fun and it worked quite well too.

^^^Yeah, I did a sponsored "coach in silence" at one of my old clubs to raise money for charity, really makes you think, but actually the effectiveness can actually go up.

Thanks for reminding me why I find The Beatles completely overrated.

Blasphemy, Mr Negativity. Don't really give a rodent's posterior what you think of the Beatles. There are other, more suitable forums around where you can express such misguided musical opinions.

That one, definitely. But I Want To Hold Your Hand is one of my favorite songs of all time. Makes up completely for Yellow Submarine.

BB,

Well it is! Did you make it to IW this year??? If not maybe we should set that up a little firmer for 2014.

Maybe this is as good a place as any to ask this: where do you put your cameras? I was in IW for three days this year. You have the official huge TV cameras in their places with a guy operating them, and then some cameras poking out of holes at the back. Where do you setup your cameras? Do you record a whole match? Is someone always operating it right there or is it remote controlled?

Suresh,

It depends on the year and what we are trying to film. This year, two places--in the pit as we call it--which has those two openings at court level behind the baseline you mention. And the second view was from the top under the south scoreboard looking down with a very long lens.

Sometimes we set up a stationary hd camera to film the patterns, but with the high speed cameras there is always an operator (usually me) following the players. We don't necessarily record an entire match--depends on who is playing and how it goes. Don't know if you have looked at the Free Tour but there are multiple high speed shots from other years both IW and Cincy.

Do you pay the tournament for filming privileges or is it kind of a free "good for tennis" arrangement? Understand if you don't want to reply as it may be sensitive info.

Hi BB. I'm a relative newbie and we don't know each other, but I'd just like to say:

Bungalo Bill, Bungalo Bill, if he can't do it his bungalo will.

Just my two cents. Best wishes and congrats on the tennis playing wife thing.

Suresh,

Are you starting a competing site? I can't go into details but it's set up through the tournaments.

With photographics skills like these at IW (posted in the thread in the Travel section), I think I will give you a run for your money:
