So I am still relatively new to the game and started regripping my own racquets. I seem to always encounter a problem when I start angling the grip downwards during application.
So I start by putting the tapered end on a bevel and then stapling it in. After that I wrap once around the buttcap and right after I overlap the staple I start angling downwards. On that first loop after I always tend to have a big flap of grip that is always excess and creates a crease when I overlap. Is there a good technique to use to avoid this or does it just come with practice. It doesn't really bother me when I am playing but looking at it does because I want the whole grip to look perfect...yes I am strange like that. |

Trying pulling harder and do a few times while doing the first 2 turns along the butt cap. This way, the grip will stretch and fit nicely.

Try not angling it down too soon, go right around the first overlap and start angling about half way around again. I find if you angle too soon it leaves a gappy flap where it doesnt sit right. And also as Kopfan says, pull it fairly tight to start with around the butt cap, once you get onto the flat straight you can ease off and wrap fairly gently.

good advice above... pull it a bit tightly when over the buttcap/transition to the main part of the handle. you should pull tightly whenever there is a change in width in the handle.
