How important is shoe tread on red clay? I'd like to wear my old pair of Air Zooms so that I don't get dirt inside my new ones, but the soles pretty much have no tread left on them. Based on the sliding done on clay, I'm wondering if this would result in me falling on my butt.
Thanks, Vin |

I dont think there are certain shoes designed for clay persay, just look to the pro's they have the same shoes they wear year round.
Your best bet is to buy a pair your comfortable with and designate one pair for hard courts and one pair for the dirt. Just my 2 cents |

The pros most certainly do have different shoes for different surfaces. May look same upper but the sole is different. My thinking wuld be used the more worn shoe on clay. When I used to play solely on clay I used to know it was time to get new shoes when after playing I would hit the bottom of my shoe and no clay/grit would fall out. Another pair worn out time to reload.

worn treads on clay will be like bald tires on mud - it'll hurt you when you're changing direction or accelerating toward a ball. clay shoes typically have a dimpled, softer tread instead of the hard durable rubber that tears up the surface. I've used Adidas Feathers because they fit well and have great traction on clay, I'm sure other makers have clay specific shoes.
