Is it the push with the legs? the upwards push of the right shoulder? is it the chest heaving forward?

The research needed to answer this question simply doesn't exist.

Does the answer depend on if it is ATP or WTA?

pgreg,
You've gotten some good natured ribbing, but it is not that bad a question. The answer is that the shirt is flying up mainly from jumping up, but shoulder-over-shoulder cartwheel also contributes. It is serving up the mountain: "Up the Mountain" excerpt form Serve Doctor presents: M.P.H. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlPVdppfYGs Do you direct all your body energy up when you serve, or do you direct it forward? Do you feel like you are "pitching in an upward direction" as if you were throwing a ball at the ceiling when you serve, or are do you errantly serve like you are throwing forward to a catcher? ![]() Are you not just jumping up so rapidly (pics 5-9) to make your shirt fly up, but also pulling the butt of you racquet upwards so rapidly as you cartwheel your shoulders (pics 4-6) that the racquet only "flips" at the last second to slap the ball, then continues to "flip" so rapidly it ends up upside down (pics 9,10)? It's the transfer of potential energy to kinetic energy, sometimes my pants fall down if I explode too much into my serves.

Or take your current shorts to your local tailor. You'll be rocking the 80s look by next week. And remember to tuck in your polo shirt.

Forget the shirt. What makes the girl's dress/skirt fly up on a serve?
