Ok, I have had a few bouts with inner elbow pain over the years. The most recent started in late November. While quite painful, particularly the first few balls I hit, I can get through and still play at a high level. I noticed while looking at my inner elbow of my playing arm that the bone on the inside is significantly larger and pokes out much more than on my non playing arm. (I am a one handed player) It is on and around this bone that I have pain when playing or if I press on it. I did a little research and read that calcification of the tendons can happen if the tendonititis gets bad enough.
Anyone ever hear of this before? I mean my right arm is significantly larger anyway, but the way that bone sticks out further than the othe side seems odd, especially since that is the site of the pain I have.

Tendon calcification and, I guess, bone spurs are interesting issues.
Does a small area of the tendon's bone attachment detach and then the bone remodels out to reconnect? Does this process repeat to form a bone spur? Or does calcification build up inside tendon tissue? Calcification can build up in parts of the heart and cause trouble. Valves? I was surprised to see a large bone spur, about 3/4" long?, on an X-ray of my elbow. The Dr was not even going to mention it until I asked. It has never caused any discomfort and looks out of the way on the outside of my elbow. I have been curious as to why it formed. I've read that bone spurs, especially 'heel spurs' associated with plantar fasciitis, are not necessarily the source of the pain. The Achilles enlarges at its attachment to the heel. You might research that. You need imaging and a Dr to identify whether you are seeing bone, enlarged tendon, or other. Last edited by Chas Tennis : 02-24-2013 at 04:01 AM. |

yeah, it's strange for sure, i'd say that the bone sticks out about double the size of the left arm, that's where the pain is, but then again my entire right arm and even hand is so much bigger than my left arm that it's hard to say if what I'm seeing is connected to the pain or not, I''m guessing it is somehow, but connecting the dots is tough

Tonight before my practice with another pro, I called one of my new student's father who is an orthepedic surgeon and gave him some background, including the apparent increase in bone size in my right inner elbow. He immediately mentioned UCL damage as a 'worst case scenario' possibility. This can lead to the 'Tommy John surgery' if bad enough. His son will be coming to my junior academy clinics on Tues. He's going to look at it and give me his best guess as to what might be going on. I can't believe it's too bad yet, as like I said, once I get warmed up I play relatively pain free unless I catch a ball late, hyper extend my arm, etc.
