Default Discovery Channel's Faux Documentaries

A friend suggested that I watch Discovery Channel's faux documentaries, "Amish Mafia," "The Devils Ride," and "Moonshiners" for a laugh. From a cinematic, legal, and logical standpoint, there is very little reality in these shows. Does anyone view these shows as "reality television"?

No.

theres no such things as a reality 'show'; unless the participants have no idea they're being filmed.

Those shows are pretty much staged but not scripted...

I do watch Moonshiners. I seem to enjoy watching those guys, even if they may be playing up for TV a bit.

Devils Ride Ive never seen to complement on.

Amish Mafia is actors portraying the stories of an actual Amish Mafia existing. The producers dont know what is and isnt true.

the disclaimer states the show contains dramatic re-enactments “based on eyewitness accounts, testimonials and the legend of the Amish Mafia.”

Cops was probably the realest of the reality shows.

Lars von Trier's shaky camera cinematography spawned a "reality look" in fictional film and television, which has been utilized in television series like "The Office." Faux reality series use the same technique, not by necessity, but for effect.

I view them as 'filler'.
