TW: Removing bumper guard?

It was suggested to me in another post that I'd remove the bumper guard on my Pro Staff 6.0 85 to make it more head light. My question is if that is possible? Aren't the grommets at the top of the hoop a part of the bumper guard? If I remove the bumper are there still a grommet strip underneath? If not, can one replace the bumper with a grommet strip?

And also, how many grams does the bumper guard weight? Is it even worth considering with regards to making it more head light?
