Hi all,
Head Ti S-5 was my first racquet. My roommate was a fan of Head racquet (and ultimate beginner). Thanks to his recommendation, I picked up this cool-looking/ultralight racquet a couple years ago. It's OK but I moved to POG, PS6.0 95 and Ti radical. I think S-5 will make a good racquet for my wife who is yet to start to play tennis but the problem is grip is 4 1/2. She said it feel a little bit thicker to her preference. I know those kind of modern racquets have ultrathin grip wall. Has anyone tried to shave them off? Would it hurt its structural integrity if I make it to like 4 1/4 or 1/8. It would be something like removing 1mm off the handle. Thanks. Young |

Try this first: Take the replacement grip off and put on two overgrips instead. This should noticably reduce the grip size. If two overgrips don't feel cushioned enough then seek advice on shaving down the handle.

It's going to be tough to reduce a grip that much, especially one of those shock-stop Heads. Besides, that s5 is SO light -- why not spend 30 or 40 bucks and get her something used but in the right size? She's worth it.

hi,
Thanks for all your advice. The reason I cannot buy one for her is first, she doesn't play (probably will) and she is now 6K miles away from me . So, I think the order should be : Bring her to a court when we get together and let her his for a while with my various racquets incl. Ti S-5. Check her preference and if she wants to play it, buy her one. So, thanks auckzee, I will have to pass it b/c I don't know whether she will like it or not. Steve H. I am not sure if she will like those ultralight things. She should give a try. AAAA, I will remember that. Thanks guys, have a good day! Tenny |
