I read somewhere that you should eat tons of carbs very shortly after a match. There was also a suggestion about the type of carbs (I can't remember if it was hyper-glycaemic or not). Anyone (a) have a view on this and (b) able to explain what I should be eating?
Thanks |

My view on this is you should practice proper eating and hydration while training and in preparation for a match. Then, after the match, I eat bacon, drink LOTS of water with some tea/coffee, and eat anything else I damme well please. Life is too short, enjoy!

When I stop playing I have two small children to amuse/exercise so I need to keep my energy up -- otherwise I would agree with you.

What I have read & what works for me is drinking a meal replacement shake with nice a blend of carbs & protein + some fruit immediately after playing. 2-2.5 hours later I eat some "solid" food: EX: some grilled chicken with rice, etc.

I have a meal replacement shake with maltodextrin powder(carbohydrates), Hydrolized protein powder (the fastest digesting protein), milk, and a banana all blended together. This is also what I have after a weightlifting workout.
From what I've read, the time immediately after a workout is when your body is most responsive to nutrition for recovery, which is why it's good to get carbohydrates and proteins digested into your system as soon as possible. Vin |

After our USTA matches, we usually hv lots of beer, nuts, chips, donuts. Thankfully, the USTA team only plays once a week.

I usually have a Atkins Bar, Peanut Butter Chocolate, has 19 grams of protien, 2 net carbs. Taste great, and filling. If I'm really hungry, I'll make a quick grill chicken salad.
Although, I gotta admit, I like the menu that dennis had suggested above.. |
