Captions are done by an editor not the photographer and therefore cannot be 100% accurate, they just comment whatever is in the picture not what is actually happening. Sometimes they even mix up players names. But it doesn't matter, it's a cool picture and it doesn't really matter what actually happened. Lets just forget about this.

Perf is absolutely right- you guys are absolutely amazing. Listen, anyone who's used a camera knows that you focus on an object at a certain level and things IN FRONT OF and BEHIND it are generally OUT OF FOCUS. Have you ever seen Roger hit a ball with that grip? Could he hit a ball more than ONCE with that grip before breaking his wrist? C'mon, are you guys SERIOUS?!

Like i said the background is about 20 foot behind him and is as much in focus as his racquet which is only a metre infront, if we're talking on this scale then his nose should be in focus and the back of his head blurred!

You find me a picture where somebodys racquet is stationary but out of focus!

The racquet isn't just blurred it appears stretched indicating that it is moving as the shutter was open and is in a different position from when the shutter opened to when the shutter closed, therefore the racquet was moving!

Just think logically, do you really need to put that much effort into stopping a ball, does his forearm really need to be tensed that much, does he really need that slightly constipated look on his face, is he practising with 3kg balls!

NO!

He's hitting an inside out forehand with lots of topspin, you may be being deceived by the fact that the racquet head is at a funny angle and is above the ball, but he has already hit the shot, but because of the racquet speed these guys generate although the ball hasn't travelled that far Fed's follow through is already at that advanced stage! Look at the size of the ball relative to his racquet it is much too big to be directly underneath his racquet, it's already well on it's way towards the net!

Whoever said the caption is done by an editor is right. I've seen comments on yahoo sports that are so wrong it's scary. Just look at Fed, he has to be hitting that ball. His left arm is obviously stretched, his forearm is at what looks like full flex, his hair is waving, his shirt is all cumpled and the like as if he is moving his body quickly.

I'm still saying that he is hitting it. Look at those pics of Ferrero and the one of Fed that that guy posted. Ferrero's racquet is flat on some of those.

That's a good point.. The ball is definitely closer to the camera than the racquet.

Nice argument guys lol. He seems to be hitting a shot. Look at the tension in the forearm muscles, and look at the tightness of his grip. You can also see his left arm tucking back behind him bent at the elbow. He seems to be standing bolt upright as in a shot too. His shirt shows he is practising so he;s probably trying some new space age funk shot knowing him lol. *Dodges bullets*

Geez Perf, look at the blur pattern on the ball.... if Fed were actually 'catching' the ball, then the blur pattern would be up down, not right left. As further proof, look at the other snapshots of the strokes of Ferrero and Fed, no contest that they're hitting the ball, notice how the blurs are quite indicative of the actual direction of the ball. Now who's the noob?

That would be cool if a player has such loopy strokes so that after they make contact with the ball, their racket follows through and the ball with massive topspin imparted on it goes around the racket.

Wow. Another pro 'catching' the ball during a point. You'd think they don't even bother playing anymore, they just 'catch' the ball whenever they can.
