Question Questions about Strings in general

What are the differences between multifilament, monofilament and synthetic? What are the advantages of each regarding spin, feel, durability, cost etc?
Thanks for the help.

Multifilaments are highly recommended for players with any kind of shoulder, elbow, wrist or hand pain.
