Why slippery? Totally by accident did I see a listing for their 10 PM EST Wednesday telecast of a one-hour Aussie TV highlights show devoted to the Davis Cup '84 final rubber of Cash (Aus.) V. Nystrom (Swe.). Cash, peaking, easily defeated Nystrom at Kooyong on grass to clinch the Cup. Why isn't this on at 8 PM? It followed two hours of squash!!

For those interested, Cash was rocking nifty red-trimmed Tacchini, custom Diadora Elites, and a Slaz V-24 mid. Nystrom a Rossi F200, more custom Diadora Elites, and the same Cerruti 1881 gear worn by Wilander back then.

Made all the more interesting because the other singles was played by Wilander.

Wilander was playing with an F200 and wearing the Cerruti clothes mentioned in the previous post.

Cash was 18 or 19 in that tie and looked it. The post match interview was delightfully unpolished.

I'd also love to have one of those Slazengers. I did pick up two F200's off e-bay for $56.00. Galain - if you're reading, it's your fault, buddy.

The Slaz V-24 is a tough find. Really, really pretty 1982 wood racket that Vilas rode to prominence during the '82 year (French finals, US Open semi, several tournament wins), followed by Cash who semi'ed at both Wimby and the US, and won the Cup, all in 1984. Cash signed a deal with Prince to commence the '85 season. The V-24 had a sharp, hi-gloss burgundy paintjob, Fairway-like burgundy grip, full-length burgundy cover and a striped cream and burgundy finishing tape strip to top off the grip. Really well-detailed!

I decided to actually educate myself from TTC's site as to upcoming programs. This coming long weekend, they've got '83, '88 and '90 Cup final highlights, Sampras/Kafelnikov Cup '95, and yes, No Strings: Spadea.
