It was probably the most boring final in tennis history. Poor Elena, even though she had spurts where you could see how she got to the final, 10 doubles and 33 unforced errors may be a two set record.

I also felt sorry for Myskina though, what a bitter-sweet victory. I give her a lot of credit though for staying focused; it's so easy to get distracted when you opponent melts down, especially when they are a good friend. On the podium, it looked like she was was thinking more about Elena than the trophy.

Good point, Cypo. Elena did show some flashes of the play that got her this far... but they were few and far between. Was impressed with the way Anastasia handled her victory in front of her obviously distraught friend. Hopefully after this experience, they'll be able to control their nerves better in future slams.

yeah the tennis wasn't that good, but oh well. you can almost expect it with two girls who known each other that long and have played against each other since kiddies. It's very preditctable when two close friends play against each other, in women's matches it shows up as errors becuz both players "feel" for each other, in men's it shows up as a foregone conclusion, where the bottom dog cedes to the top dog.

I'm so sick of seeing women's finals where friends or sisters are too afraid of getting nasty and going for broke. Their wins are always apologetic....boring! I want to see an all-out I'm-gonna-kick-your-*** type match; something along the lines of the Henin/Capriati USO semifinal last year would be a good start.

Damn, my girl lost!

It didn't look very good for her when she got upset during a pre match conference and said "I can't and I don't even know how to serve. The pressure is just too much for me"

I was very impressed by the way Myskina handled it, I was also feeling pretty upset for Elena (as her biggest fan would!)

Well there is always Wimbly I suppose, I still love ya Elena!!

yeah I was rooting for her too. I thought she deserved to win it more since she had more of a resume coming into the final, more of a "she's ready to win one now" sort of thing.

Yeah I learnt a bit of Russian when I went to a night school. Think she will be impressed?

I didn't learn many words, just the rules of the language and I know that "E" is pronounced like a "Ye" so it would be "Yelena".

Just incase I ever meet her again, I got to be prepared

Thanks for the link. I find it especially sad as she is my number one and I never like to see her upset.

I wondered what she said when she screamed out after her double fault. She must be really depressed if she shouted out "I hate my serve". It has upset me aswell, as I feel her pain

I recorded the match on a blank tape and wanted it to be my pride and joy, but I will just have to record over it in her next GS final. I hope it's not far away.

I hope she can come back with an improvement on her serve and good luck to her in the up and coming slams.

She has gained lots of new fans these past 2 weeks. I am glad that i'm not the only one now!!

I hope she soughts it out and we don't have to see her sad face anymore. I much prefer to see her smiling and I hope it's not far away.

Well it just so happens I am!!! I am taking it as one of my A Levels. She is fluent in English aswell so my French might not be required.

At least I understood what she was saying during her after match speech.
It was my rusty Russian that enabled me to meet her last time.

I will still practise the Russian, it might make the right impression!! LOL

BTW. I am 17 on 24th July.

Well night classes for kids are popular in England. I did my Spanish GCSE on one last year. It's better than school.

If I do a Russian GCSE next year then that means I will have a GCSE in 5 languages.

See, me and Elena have something in common, we both love languages!!
