PS.lelopez. Coria is evidently not a nice guy and is detested for his his whining and complaining by the umpIres and is seriously disliked by his fellow Argentinian players as well as the boys in the locker room. He just looks like a pixie. He had not one word of praise for Gaudio in his ceremony speech, said a few words of thanks to a couple of people, then waved the mike and turned away and IMO really meant ****

I think this post was started with a very ignorant knowledge of the situation in Argentina. Coria winning the French, or losing it, isn't going to decide if the mobs take his family hostage or not. Anyone with money down there is subject to it. Nobody in Argentina has the money to bet on anything... that's why they take hostages and stuff. Argentines with money usually get the hell out of there as fast as they can. I question if this isn't the case for Coria's family to begin with.

Face it, that mob wave in the 3rd set so totally unnerved Coria
that he cramped up with just the thought of another wild mob scene. They put the whammy on him. Someone has to stop it before Terrible Tim Henman rides that wave to a Wimbledon title.

.....nuff said...we'll just keep going in circles with everyone expressing his or her own opinion of the situation. I just brought this subject up to see how people felt and now I know.
Hopefully the cramps were true and he should be able to come back strong. As for Gaudio, the title could not have gone to a better guy..... thanks for your input L. |

For the guy that said that Coria didn't have any praise for Gaudio.....that's just not correct, Coria spoke exclusively in Spanish and he praised Gaudio plenty, he even said " I know we have had problems in the past but they are forgotten and you really deserve this for all that stuff you went through during your career " I believe Coria was refering to the lack of support from the Argentinian tennis federation. Anyways since spanish is my mother tongue I just wanted to correct that statement.

It doesn't seem implausible a priori to me that a tennis player like Coria could be blackmailed into throwing a match, but just having watched the taped match, I don't think that Coria could possibly have thrown it on purpose. He served two match points, both of which were substantial rallies. On the first of them he missed the sideline by inches or he would have won the match. No one has that kind of precision. If he were throwing the match intentionally, he never would have let himself get THAT close to winning.

Thanks for translating the speech netbudda. They just showed what I guess was the end of the speech on ESPN International when he thanked a few people & I was also watching his body language.
