Two youngsters from Serbia and Montenegro, Novak Djokovic and Ilia Bozoljac, turned in straight-sets upsets Wednesday at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in an ATP-level event.

The 18-year-old Djokovic dismissed fourth-seeded Radek Stepanek 6-3, 6-4 on Center Court, recording his second consecutive win over a Czech in Zagreb. He also defeated Robin Vik in straight sets earlier this week.

Qualifier Bozoljac, ranked No. 215 in the INDESIT ATP Rankings, picked up his third career win as he defeated eight-seeded Feliciano Lopez 7-6, 6-2. The 20-year-old is making his second appearance in an ATP-level event after going 1-1 in Umag last year.

I was just going to post that
Man, Marius, u're quick...

There were no breaks of serve in that match, but Ivo's serve pressured more on Mario than Mario's on Ivo...

I was totally surprised by Bozoljac's win...although he has a powerful serve and his shots are quite precise. But since I have watched him play against Bracciali I wasn't sure how could he handle a better player, like Lopez. I'm glad he won. Djokovic-Bozoljac will be an interesting one to watch.

And Karlovic's win was just what I've hoped for. It's great to see his game is going upwards and I'm glad he won in front of his home-crowd (as him being the only one actually from Zagreb, although atptennis is repeating the same mistake every day-saying that Cilic is Zagreb born...and the kid isn't from Croatia at all...he's from Bosnia&Herzegovina,he's a Croat by nationality)

Yesterday's Murray-Ljubicic was the best match of the tourney so far. After what he has shown against Ljubo, I consider him one of the biggest potentials for 2006.

How did Bozoljac play against Lopez? What's his style? I'm wondering if it's similar to Djokovic.

Bozoljac is a lefty, hits 2 hands off both sides.

Ok, then, I guess it's safe to assume their styles are quite different.
Thanks.

Nice show from Ivo! Beat Mario Ancic, hopefully he can go all the way and make this his first tournament win!

Ok, maybe that's a little too much to ask for. But it IS a home crowd, probably the best surface for him (indoor, fast), and he has a pretty nice draw facing Koubek in the quarters.

Rats... No semifinal for Dr. Ivo, taken out by Koubek.

Now I'm rooting for Tim Henman - he's in his first semifinal since early '04, c'mon TIIIIIM!

Noooooo...

Tim out as well, Koubek's having a great run. Ljubicic getting the job done, living up to his ranking.

Ljubicic vs Koubek in the final, don't even know who to root for there. I'm rooting for the match to go to 6-6 into the third-set tiebreak, and then for one of the players (doesn't matter which one) to get two lucky net-cords in a row.

Djokovic gave Ljubicic a hard time...it was a brilliant match. I think the final will not be half as interesting as this match. Djokovic was playing really great, offensive tennis, he was keeping Ljubicic 3 m behind the baseline in the 1st set. And in the next two he handed Ljubo quite a lot of points. Ljubicic wasn't playing one of his best matches, luckilly he was serving good and Djokovic started to make too much unforced errors after some time.
I suppose Ljubicic will play like himself tomorrow and take the tourney. It will be good to see how he handles Koubek cause we're playing Austria in the DC next week (although that will be on clay).
Goran was commenting the match for croatian tv and repeated twice that he expects to see Djokovic in the Top 30 in the next few months. I couldn't agree more.
He also mentioned how the serving gun wasn't working well in the previous matches (they shut it down for this match cause they discovered it was taking about 25-30 km from each serve) which explained why Ljubo and Ancic have been hitting only "170 km/h" serves in the past matches
Ah I'm sorry Tim didn't make it to the finals...as I hear he was having some serious back problems in the 3rd and that's what cost him the finals.

Yes, Djokovic can play. Gald to know quite a few people (with keen eyes) appreciate his play.
How was his fitness holding up during the match?

I'd say pretty good...I mean he made Ljubicic run more than vice versa so I think he wasn't even in danger of losing stamina. As I said..great match. Ljubo proved he's not #5 by chance (I don't think many players would've beaten Djokovic in that match) and Djokovic showed he'll make Top 20 soon if he continues this way.

"If he continues this way" ... one of the most accurate and smart sentences I'ver ever read in this board.

All of you guys were all claiming Baghdatis WILL be top10, Blake WILL be Top10, and Ginepri WILL be top10...

And then, one user from CRO nailed it with the real sentence: if he continues to play the way he is playing...

Bravo, CroSen

Top seed Ivan Ljubicic became the first multiple title winner of 2006 when he defeated Austrian qualifier Stefan Koubek 6-3, 6-4 in the PBZ Zagreb Indoors final, adding to his Chennai title last month.
