Probably because Luxilon is meant to be used as a full set. Yeah, other synthetics lock in okay, but nothing like Luxilon. A full Lux job loses tension at a constant rate, plays as Luxilon engineered it to (as a full job), is more durable, and so on. I think there is some sort of hybrid craziness around. I can see doing it for gut to save some money, but if you are going to play with poly mains, putting a syn gut in the crosses won't make it that much more arm friendly. Put too soft of a cross...pop goes the weasel.

One of my current combo:
Main - ALU Power Cross - Gosen OG Sheep Micro I tried a full set of ALU, it plays like a board even lowered the tension 3-4 lbs. Whereas the hybrid set played MUCH more lively and softer at the same tension. Though I'd say Multi/gut cross is overkill unless you got big budgets cos cross will break fast. |

i used to use a full alu job but currently i am trying out an alu main - syn gut cross hybrid.
however i was quite disappointed with the performace. my current set-up has far less spin and pop as compared to a full alu job, the strings dont seem to lock in and work as well together. the only good thing is that now the racket feels easier on my arm |

I originally switched to Luxilon beacuse of string movement, shredding, and breaking.
The first thing I tried was a hybrid of Luxilon with a good Prince synthetic gut. The gut got totally eaten up and didn't last. A big reason for me to use the Luxilon was lost, I really enjoyed it's benefits though. With 100% Luxilon, it's a uniform feel. They never move, they never break, power is down, and spin is way up. I couldn't ask for anything better, except of course better feel...

When I used Luxilon TIMO, I preferred a full job because the control was better with a full job.
