Default Safin - Rochus *spoiler*

Safin has lost the first set 7-6 to Rochus but is leading 4-3 with a break in the second set.
Nice to see that you don't need to be big and strong to (at least) take a set from Safin

Not at all strange, really. Rochus usually gives Safin a lot of problems, even when he's not rusty.

He sounded so high and happy after defeating Davydenko yesterday, he maybe had a meltdown. He now knows he can play with the best and Rochus has always given him trouble...like Santoro, only he usually beats Olivier.

The result is not surprising for Safin watchers...

He'll be back and interesting to follow, as usual.

Have you guys forgotten already? This is Safin style all the way....win against a top 5 player - 24hrs later lose to #31.

I saw O Rochus give Roger a fight last year until he started being Roger. He plays with a lot of power for his size. It was a tournament in europe. His brother Christophe (sp?) plays well too. Very good hands. Their serves could be better, but both of them are really crafty.

I can't believe anyone would actually think Safin could string a number of matches together, especially after just getting back.

Elated yesterday, deoressed to-day. He played a temper-filled Marat you are stupid (in Russian) match to-day, and here's what he said was the problem after the match.

Safin was in disconsolate mood after his match, blaming a lack of match practice for his defeat and petulant outbursts.

The Russian threw his racket to the ground in frustration three times as he lost control of the game, despite showing flashes of his pulverising brilliance.

"It was a lack of matches," claimed the former world number one.

"You need to get the rhythm back, it doesn't come straight away. There's still a long way to go and many things to work on.

"It's not like I was so bad but I never like to play him. He's a difficult opponent because he uses slice and changes his game a lot. He plays smart. I just need matches."

That's Marat...nothing is easy or straightforward.

In a lengthier interview in Dubai Marat says that he always has a hard time with Rochus and his slice, and he gave him full credit for playing well.

I believe that Safin has won the last 4 meetings, he has a 5-1 lifetime record. Rochus is a scraper.Cant believe he is 5'5, he slayed a giant today

Olivier is 3-1 over Karlovic! The pic of them shaking hands at the net was something.
