Seems like a great way to improve your topspin serve

Good Drill if you have a problem dropping your head. But really, nothing new here as even beginner coaches use it!

Why on your knees?

You can do the practice sitting in the chair.

Yes this can be done from a chair or a small stool.

Sit on your butt !

The point is to work on hitting up with spin

More to the point, the hitting on your knees helps you feel proper rotation and to have a loose arm to hit with more power. A player that isolates the upper body will need to loosen the arm and shoulder to help accelerate the racquet better.

Yes...it's a drill to help you hit "up" on the ball and also confine your service motion to just your upper body.

Similar to hitting serves while standing in ball hoppers. Isolate your lower body, so you improve technically with your upper body motion. (of course, being in ball hoppers does not really help you learn to hit up on the ball)
