Default Nadal's blog says he uses 35 gauge string?

http://www.atptennis.com/en/blog/nadal.asp

"I'm not sure what went wrong but I think they may have sent the wrong strings from the factory. I normally play with 35 gauge but this was 30 - much thinner."

What does he mean 35 gauge??? he can't obviously be wrong, he's a pro!

He means 1.35 mm gauge

It's 15L by US standard I think.

Most Europeans use millimeter designations. He meant 1.35mm and 1.30mm. 1.35mm=15, 1.30=16.

Nadal also says he likes to eat pastas and pizzas without cheese and tomato sauce...a little strange.

so he uses a 15 gauge string, that would give it more power or less? He mentioned that when he used the 16 (thinner string) the balls were landing 1 metre deeper.

does thicker strings give you less power, and more control? I mean, 15L is pretty thick, and yet he still generates massive amounts of spin, so I'd expect even more spin in even a 16 g string. can someone explain this?

It's less about the strings and more about the player. Nadal would get crazy spin with any string.

hmm nice interesting post and it's great seeing quite a few number of players from China appearing on the Grand Slam circuit & WTA tournaments.

About the strings, i found this on TW website @ http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/LC/R...ringTerms.html

"Thinner strings offer greater feel, power and spin potential than a thicker string of the same material and construction."

So i guess this answers why his strokes were going deeper on the 30 gauge.
