Default Federer wins his seventh title

Federer has now won 17 straight matches after winning the Gstaad title. I think that last year playing immediately after winning Wimbledon cooled him down a little bit and that he would have had a better hard court season had he not gone to Gstaad. Will the same happen this year?

I don't think anything will slow down the Federer Express this year. Roger has already won 7 titles this season, and it is only halfway complete. Roger has been playing with the cool confidence of the number 1 player in the world right now. This run he is on reminds me of Pete Sampras, starting in 1993, when Pete was basically unstoppable.

I think Roger will be the top dog going into the U.S. Open, and if he can pull off three grand slams in one year, the rest of the world will have no choice but to take notice. Afterall, Pete never won three grand slam titles in one year, and neither did Andre.

If memory serves me correct which often it doesn't, Pete did win 3 majors in one year during his 1993-1998 years. Someone may want to verify that.

As to Andre he came awefully close to doing so in 1999, winning the french and US open and beat up on the rest of the field only to get a lesson in power tennis from Sampras in the final of Wmbledon

You saw Roddick playing at another level....his best stuff ever at W. And the Fed was able to soak up the punches and make the little adjustments needed to scoop up the silver again. The rest of the field, led by Woddick will be peddling hard just to suck the dust clouds swirling behind Fed as he dominates the game for the next 5 years.

Pete never did win 3 in a year. Both years he won the Australian Open (94, 97), he didn't win the US Open.

Pete never won 3 in a year. He did win 3 majors in a row (ie Wimby '93, USO '93, and AO '94)...but never in the same year.

Time will tell what happens. I think this hard court season could go much better for Roger and he even has a good chance of winning the US Open. The reason I say that is that now he has learned what he has to do to beat certain guys that troubled him before like Nalbandian, Agassi, and Hewitt. I doubt Roger would choke this time around if he's in a semi with Nalbandian.
