nadal and federer's racquets light?

that's what johnny mac was sayin today, that they had lighter racquets. i'm sure he means lighter than other pros, but heavier than stock. But how much heavier?

Fed's racquet is average static weight for an ATP pro, but about 20 kg-cm^2 lower SW than average.
Nadal's racquet is 1/2 oz lower than average static weight for an ATP, but about 15 kg-cm^2 higher SW than average.

I have played with both stock models ,nadals racquet is about 11and a half ounces+swings light,but feds is at least 12+ one quarter once+even though it is 12 points headlight it starts to feel pretty heavy.

Did you play with their actual racket that they use on the tour or the retail version availalbe as stock in the stores?

yeah when i heard him say that i was like huh...? i mean i guess we'll never really know because of all the racket pj conspiracy what the true weights are, but as far as the stock models go, fed's stock is heaviest and smallest of just about eveyrone. ill bet dent's is sick heavy though. i donno how much in the know jonny mac is about technology and stuff, i mean hes no warren bosworth. when talking about nadal today he said that players nowadays use a "mix" of gut and synthetics and he was talking about how that combo allows players to use heavy topspin which nadal had jsut used ina particular point, however nadal is all synthetic, and more specifically poly, whereas its fed with teh hybrid? not on the ball with this stuf johnny mac.

Yeah, I heard him say that and was like, "huh". Maybe McEnroe doesn't know what he's talking about. I hate how he always blames the technology for the pace of the game. Man, half the guys out there are using racquets that are probably 10-15 years old just with a new PJ.

Maybe he meant poly was a synthetic?

The racquets from 10 to 15 years ago are new technology for Jmac. There really isn't all that much new in racquets since the early 90s. Mostly weight distribution and gimmickry. That's why the pros don't "upgrade" (like consumers do).

Polyester is a synthetic material, just like nylon. I thought Mac said the pros all use a mix of poly and natural gut, which, while an overstatement, is not that far off the mark.

I think Mac is a bit confused when he talks about strings. He's vague on the materials and gives strings too much credit in imparting spin. His comments about racquets are spot on though when you contrast today's game with that of the 1980s. (those off balance Nadal passing shots would simply not be possible with wood or aluminum rackets.

I love Mac, but I think he starts talking and can't stop sometimes. He almost seems like he is making stuff up to account for the apparent lack of an explanation on why Fed and Rafa are so good. There has to be some almost jealousy from him when he says stuff like that. I thought it was common knowledge that most pros use 12.5-13 ounce rackets(strung) and that most now use polys at least in a hybrid. Surely Mac knows these things. Or is the network feeding him stuff? Maybe I'm the crazy one here?

what's the conversion of this into ounces?

and what is the average static weight for a pro?

Both Nadal and Federer do use lead tape though as far as I'm concern, so their racquet weights are a little different.
