Nike didn't make the jacket. From what they said on ESPN, Nike sent the design to Prada to be made.

This IS in the tennis tradition. Check pics of Davis Cuppers in years past, around the Cup, and they are all wearing such blazers.

Say 1973, when Laver & Newcombe (with Rosewall as a replacement), the greatest Ozzie team ever, destroyed US at home in the final: 5-0.

Now, this might be a bit of aggrandizement these days, and I understand the reservations some people may have.

federer always has been a student of the game...apreciating the history of the sport...and im sure he observed the history of wimbledon being that he has several titles...im sure he saw that many of the old players did so, and honestly that was a more classy period of time...i think the jacket is classy

Jep, no complains about the jacket at all. The jacket symbolizes the elegance the majesty of Roger Federer. The classiest, greatest tennis player of our generation.

Would it have worked had Nicolas Kiefer or Lleyton Hewitt worn them? The crowd (and the players in the locker room) would probably have laughed their *** off.

I agree and thought Federer looked majestic in the jacket (but he also backed it up with his play). Well I think once you've won the slam three times you're allowed a jacket And next year, Nadal should get a burnt red leather jacket for Rolland Garros!

I always remember watching old clips of tennis matches where they wore blazers just like that, although I dont remember if it was Wimbledon or not

I remember Pete was once without sponsor - just wear a white shirt with American flag. I call that class!

I think Fed gets too into being No.1 these days. i.e. the whole privileged membership thing. I am a Fed fan but usually players who are very commercialized or always talking about being No.1 / the best / winning no matter how talented they are never last long. Fed has another 3 years to match Pete's number 1 record, and another 3 to match his Wimbledon record. Hope he doesn't fall victim to all the media pressure/commercial pressure.
