Default Lacking a serve element

I noticed on the other thread(serve wrist snap) that pros actually pronate their serving arms. How and why do they do this? I have every other element of the serve from the toss to the backscratch position, but the arm pronating is not a part of my serve except on my western grip serve. I need to know why this arm pronating is so important and how is it done with the continental grip?

If you don't pronate the forearm, then you'll be hitting the ball on the frame.. The continental grip is the hammer grip, so you have to pronate to square the racquet.. The degree in the pronation will determine the angle you want to place.

The other thread is talking about the "snap" wrist movement going from palm up to palm down.. I dont consider that movement a pronation.

What about when hitting to the deuce side corner? How can you pronate and pull that off?

VIc Braden made a bet to Arthur Ashe that his arm pronated on the serve. Arthur insisted (especially on the slice) that it didnt. While Arthur was teachign students he always taught the the arm supinated on the serve to get spin, etc.

When Arthur saw his arm pronate in slow motion video , he paid up and changed his teaching.

The arm pronates naturally on the serve.

I believe there could be a naturally occuring pronating, Bill, but I don't recall ever turning my forearm to the point where my palm faces the court to my right. How do the pros pull that off?

Is your hitting arm as loose as a strand of spaghetti? You might be muscling the ball.
