I think it is high time to invest in some private lessons. You have been playing for two years and there are problems with your forehand, backhand, serve and footwork. You still look like a complete beginner even though you have been playing 2 years. Your lack of correct form is really holding you back from advancing. I am not big on rating people based on short videos but you are not even close to a 3.0. The good news is that you recognize there is a problem and you are trying to do something about it. With some good coaching and lots of practice you can advance your skill level easily.

I wouldn't be too hard on the guy.

A lot of people who have not actually played a competitve match in a tournament or league are pretty clueless about their ratings. 3.0-3.5 seems to be the lowest NTRP ratings thrown around here so they think "that must be me because I am not a complete beginner. "

In general this what I have found.

-The shorter you have been playing the more likely you are to overrate yourself.

-People who just play recreationally not competitively generally rate themselves too high.

-Teenagers tend to rate themselves too high.

- >90% of people I have met through the internet on Cragislist, tennis partner websites, you can subtract one and many times 2 levels from their stated level of ability.

If you go PLAY some actual 3.0s 3.5s 4.0s, ... (meaning people who consistently win in those level leagues) in matches where they are actually trying to beat you, you'll find out what you are pretty quickly.

FWIW, based only on your video, I don't think you could beat any of the 3.0s I know.

I want my 3mins and 26 seconds back!!

J/k. Definitely a lot of flaws but if you've spent this much time trying to self-teach yourself, you should definitely look into lessons. I'm entirely self taught but I've spent a lot of time reading and watching video to improve myself. You have the power of video, use it to your advantage.

Too true unfortunately. I usually am courteous though, and give them an alloted hour, even if I'm bored out of my mind

Your serve grip is something like eastern...you need practice!

you are not a tennis player. you are a tennis ball hitter. sorry i just dont even see the basic technique or talent that is innate to the actual players.

first off i just want to say that it takes courage to post a vid of you like that. i would too except i dont have equipment

is tennis popular in hawaii?

to answer your question, i am a beginner myself, so dont take my advice too seriously but i agree with most of the posts here. i think most important is getting the mechanics down. good luck! you are only 16 too

Maybe a 1.0 NTRP. You’re a beginner who needs to put in the time. Reading tips on the internet helps but nothing replaces actually court time. Think correct footwork, proper grips and swing mechanics as a good foundation. Learn from lessons and/or by playing people better than yourself.

Well, there's plenty of room for improvement. I'd suggest joining a club or a program somewhere, where they offer group classes. You'll be fed a bunch of balls and will be given the chance to hone your strokes. It looks like you don't have the fundamentals of the different strokes down. A teaching pro once said to me that if you watch the best players, they look like they're hitting just one stroke. The forehands, for instance, look like the same forehand no matter where the ball is. That's because they're in position for every shot. The serves also look identical, because their tosses are always perfect, always in control. They're not moving around chasing the ball ... compensating for a bad toss. It looks like you've got a ways to understanding and perfecting your strokes ... your one forehand, your one serve, your one backhand. Anyway, don't be discouraged. If you're afraid to look bad, you'll never get better. Join a program.
