Sounds like more than just the court. In any event, I'm glad she's still around for this honor. Never been a fan of postumous dedications.

Read somewhere else that it is the center court. What is Ashe? Is it a stadium or a court or both? Is stadium = court?

Ashe is the centre court. It's going to be basically the Ashe & King stadium, now. At least, that's what they said.

The linked article reads, to me, that the National Tennis Center will be something like "The King Tennis Center" ... and that Ashe Stadium will remain unchanged. (But it isn't crystal clear....)

Why does tennis seem to only concentrate on honoring recent greats? Billie Jean is a great person, but she isn't that old. And Ashe was winning slams in the 70s.
Why is no stadium/tennis center named after Jack Kramer, Don Budge, Althea Gibson? Its like tennis didn't exist prior to the open era.
Probably because most tennis fans have no idea who Kramer & Budge are, but they know who Billie Jean King/Ashe are.

Well, one obvious reason is that they take a back seat to Louis Armstrong.

Default USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center

What are your thoughts?

I have two observations:
1) Usually this sort of hornor does not confer to a live person.
2) Because she represents political correctness. I imagine, once this idea was proposed, it would be quite troublesome to vote against.

Wasn't born yet. At least not until the late 80's. And I've only been watching tennis since Federer started dominating.

She deserves a lot of credit for not only tennis, but promoting female sports...

Thumbs down

I just e-mail protest to the USTA. IMO it's wrong decision
to rename USTA National Tennis Center after ANY celebrity!
She was a great champion, but we know a lot of others also... There must be a connection between her and "somebody". The USTA Ten. Center is all of us, members of USTA, we should vote on this! Very annoying,
arrogant.
OK, maybe court #4 with her name.
BTW, I'm interested how much money they waste to rename it.
Next question is: is there any connection between this and the Chris Evert training camp in Florida?

Not to mention creating the WTA as we know it today.

I think it is *very* appropriate...there aren't many people out there who have done as much for tennis, as well as sports in general, as King. You may not like her, but you can't deny what she has accomplished.

And if you have no clue what she's accomplished, go look it up.
