Why does everyone seem to forget that he is dealing with a bad lower back and hip problem that he receives cortizone shots for. His skills are all still there, it's his movement that is hurting him right now. Perhaps he is hoping that the US Open Series events will loosen him up for his big push at the USO. I think he still has one more tour victory in him, probably not the USO though.

That just may be the borderline obsessive fan of his that I am coming out. It pains me to see him go. I am 26 years old and have been a fan of his since 2nd grade when I was 8 years old (mainly because of a nike shirt with his name and picture on it).

woah...agassi is not pathetic. hes just tired and worn out from all those 20+ years of playing tennis practically nonstop. he has a back and hip problem and is doing his best to thank all his fans by playing as many tournaments as he can in his last months. so what if he doesnt win the us open like sampras did? at least hes going and he should be appreciated for his effort.

what a nice, respectful comment about a guy who, like him or not, has universally done more for the sport than anyone. something tells me that you are only a fan of 'class' acts like the Williams sisters.

that means that perhaps you should retire from the board now at the top of your absurdity

However Agassi wants to retire, is perfectly fine. I dont care if he looses his last match or if he wins his last match. That match doesnt make a difference to what Agassi is for me or for Tennis.
I remember high points of his career with a photo graphic realism. I also remember his low points. His last match is academic to me at the best.

His game/his accomplishments and his name are safely etched into the History of Tennis. While there can be debates about him being a G.O.A.T, there is no debate that he belongs to the Top tier of players that have played this game.

Agassi is not sampras and Sampras is not Agassi. Agassi will not have 14 grandslams and Sampras is not going to add a Frenchopen into his kitty.

It is better for Agassi to play and retire while he is loosing as that is what he always wanted (i will retire when my my body no longer takes it). He would have loved to play few more years and so does his fans..but then Age wont let him.

I sure will miss him on the Tour. Nostalgia strikes me when i know he is retiring because I owe my tennis to him.

You're missing the point. Agassi has always been about no regrets. He couldn't live with himself if he retired knowing that he could have kept going. Last year's US Open was one of the highest points of his career, he was seeing and hitting the ball like no one else. No way he'd retire after that. If he hadn't turned his ankle, things could have been different.

Who knows, maybe one day he'll wake up and his back and legs will feel great and he'll pull a Rocky Balboa and play in another tournament.

I hope you are eating your words in a few weeks...

The fact is Andre still hits the ball better than 99% of the guys on tour now and if it weren't for his injuries, he'd still be competing at a high level, and thats not to say that we wont be seeing him hold one more trophy up.

Leave both Sampras and Agassi alone. They both will have retired on their own terms, and that's fine.

Sadly critics such as yourself fail to understand what it takes to stay at the top of a professional sport such as tennis. While he is old for a top tennis player, he is only one year older than last year, but has had injuries take there toll on him recently. Despite his intense training over the years, his current back injury is preventing him from finishing his career in a winning fashion.

So before you start casting stones at one the top 15 (arguably top 10)players of all time, have some empathy for his current injury situation.

who doesnt? he has kids to look after.

either way, people will have their opinions. youre wrong if you say that his goodbye tour sucks and youre wrong if you say that he shouldve retired while he was closer to the top, ie last USO. whatever.
