he isn't back! He is just getting that feeling of what inconsistancy does to a person.

Ups and downs.

You people are all crazy?

Head to Head, Federer is up 7-2, with Federer winning their last match at Halle (the final) on grass in straight sets.

Federer does not lose easily, and during the Aussie Open semifinal in 2005, he did anything but lose easily. The match ended 9-7 in the fifth. How much closer could a match be? Honestly, these types of matches could have swung either way, and yet everyone exuberently points at this result stating "Safin can beat Federer whenever he wants to." You guys need better evidence than this.

Yes, Safin may be a giant-killer, but I dont see him beating Federer again and I definitely do not see him beating Nadal (since the defense will frustrate him, causing him to miss a lot more.)

Safin can have Legg Mason, but if he draws Federer or Nadal at the US Open, then he is the guy that needs to watch out, since he'll probably be making an early round exit.

Except that the Halle match wasn't in straight sets it was a tightly contested 3 setter going Federer's way 6-4 in the third. So case in point, Safin can give Federer problems anywhere and anytime he plays him.

So the last time they played Federer won after the match went the distance. Safin was playing on his worst surface (one that he has previously threatened to never on again as he dislikes it so much) against Federer on his favourite surface.

Yet it was still tight? Their previous meeting was won by Safin and the one before that involved one of the best Tie-Breaks in history that ended 20-18.

I see no reason at all why Safin can't beat Federer again.

As for Nadal, well they have never played so you can't be sure how he would respond so talk about that is just opinion. We have no facts to support either Nadal or Safin.

Considering Safin has beaten two players who are contenders for the G.O.A.T, then I'd say Safin has plenty of talent.

True, Safin may not make an impact at the U.S. open. You never know. But look at the Australian Open 2004 where he beat Andre Agassi, snapping his 26 win streak at the AOpen. Then he lost to Federer in the final, in a not so great way either.

Safin is a very streaky player, you cannot tell how he will do, as many have said.

Murray gets alot of balls back in play with alot of spin on em, and if I remember correctly, Safin toyed with him so much that he made Murray throw up on the court.

Murray is not even close to Nadal. Nadal runs everything down and puts a lot of juice on his shots. He's maybe at his most dangerous when you put him on the run. No one likes that, not even Safin. But Safin can overpower him.

Why would anyone want a high post count? Mine is a source of shame. I post too much here. Though I'm only here for like 10 or 15 minutes a day...fast thinking, fast typing.

Default Marat- the wild card

It's interesting that a player like Blake can give Nadal fits when they play, and Safin gives Roger some serious competition. Sometimes, we forget that Safin was so dominant in that US Open final against Sampras. I kept watching that match wondering when the true Pete would emerge. Safin never let him. I think Mats Wilander said that Marat needed to know that he could never play on that level every match. If some guru could get into Marat's head and (withstanding injuries) balance his game, he could possibly climb back to where he belongs and challenge the big boys.
