His mental game is getting better. He looks very relaxed and patient out there. He has moments where he picks up the racquet as if to smash it, then he thinks better of it and goes back for the towel and hits an ace on the next point. Peter Lundgren is working hard on him.

marat's recent win against blake will make safin fans think that he actually has hope of getting back into the top 5.
blake's loss to safin will make him look like he doesnt belong in the top 5...even more so than now. its a lose-lose situation |

Safin is probably the most naturally gifted player on the tour (more so than Federer IMO)
If I could have anyone's game, maybe ever...I think I could do more with Safin's game. |

I don't believe it. We just had a giaaant Thread that went and on about Federer x Safin.. and now, even when the topic is not about them, we hear the same things over again. Like the other poster mention it, Threads that are supposition and pure imgaination really do get a lot of attention...

No doubt about Blakeīs talent but I think he has still many things to prove to be considered a top player (I mean a really top player). I would say he is in the same level as Davydenko, Ancic or Robredo but the fact of being American makes him a more "mediatic" player than these guys. For example Nalbandian is much more consistent and complete and he is ignored by the media (it would be different if he was from the USA).
Blakeīs best result ever on a Grand Slam is a QUARTER-FINAL last year in the US Open, he didnīt even play a Grand Slam semifinal and he lost in the 3rd round on every Grand Slam this year. He plays his best in America on hardcourts but for some reason he doesnīt play the same level in European tournaments, doesnīt matter the surface (he won 6 single titles on his career, 4 of them in the USA on hardcourts). Itīs the same with Murray being British: what did this guy to become so popular? I think Djokovic or Gasquet are more talented and consistent (comparation with Nadal would be ridiculous). |

Why dont you just STFU and stop posting until you actually KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT TENNIS!?!?!?!? Safin likes the hardcourts and the pace they give him... He's had 2 major knee injuries in the last few years... And surgery, so he's not going to come back like a machine. If you have nothing better to contribute than thoughtless 1 or 2 liners... Give it up, you havent contributed anything useful or worthwhile on these forums, in the short time that you've been here... |

Again Safin wins one match and the "he can make a run at the Open" posts returns with it. Well he lost to Clement in the semi's after being up in the 1st set tie-breaker. If you are going to beat guys like Fed and Rafa you take out the Frenchman. Again I've said it numerous times in other posts I don't understand the hero worship of this guy. Yeah he's got a great backhand, but so does Vince Spadea , Sebastien Grosjean, and a lot of other pros.
