I know she still has points from the US open, but henin already has a grand slam title and two finals this year, clijsters has yet to make a slam final this year, so where is she getting her points?

she has to defend her points now. if she doesnt, she falls. its a 12 month ranking system.

Last year she won both the US open series and the US open, so she walked away with a massive jackpot and a boatload of points.

And at the Grand Slams - currently Clijsters has on record a win and three semis. Henin has a win, two finals, and a round-of-16. But yeah, I'm not sure of the details of how that works. ...oh, I see. Henin has only played 13 tournaments in the past 52 weeks, whereas the ranking system counts up to 17 tournaments. So Henin has at least four big zeroes being counted, whereas Clijsters has played a full schedule (18 tournaments in the past 52 weeks), so that probably helps as well. |

Well done. The 12 month rolling calendar is intriguing as it is confusing.

She does not deserve to be #2. It should be Henin atleast #2 and not Clijsters. However Clijsters plays alot of events to pick up cheap supermarket points. That is why she is #2 when she should be #3 in rankings.

What difference does is make? Neither of them is the #1 player in the world right now and if Muresmo gets to at least the semis of the USO she can say she had a great year in the majors. BTW, Clijsters has a great body so that justifies her #2 ranking over the "way too tiny" JHH.

clijsters plays a helluvalot (when she ain't hurt) and she rarely loses early. she's consistent, and that helps a lot in the ranking system.
