I haven't been paying attention to Hingis' ranking. But I just noticed that she is currently ranked #9.
When did she move into top 10? Has it been a few months? Has she moved up higher than #9 since her return? |

No idea, I hadn't kept track of her ranking for a while.
She's currently 6th in the Race though, so she could still rise another spot or two or three in the Rankings by year's end if she plays well. |

Just because she won Rome Cup in 2005 (I think) she's pretty much in top 10 since. Don't know how, maybe she's "famous"?

She is great to watch play. Plays very chess-like games. I'm glad she's back.
By the way, is she going to qualify for the year-end masters, in December? ...is it in Chicago?

currently she is 6th on the race to the YEC ahead of dementieva, petrova, safina and schnyder. but she plays less events than those 4 and as we saw at the us open, she is prone to be upset even by lower ranked players. one would think that her results should be more consistent and that she should only lose to other high-ranked players. when she first came back in australia, she said that she wouldn't play like she did before her first retirement and instead would try to be more powerful and aggressive. she seemed on the right track earlier this year. but now, its like she's regressed back to her pre-2002 level in her last 2 tournaments. if she doesn't improve her game she will not contend for any major title next year and should just retire again.

saw her at the Loreal building in midtown prior to the start of the US Open.
she looked better in person-- cute, unassuming, down to earth.. her mother needs a new hairstyle though.. It was painful watching her lose this year at the open in that fashion. she was hitting like me. |
