Thiem enters top 10

Quarter final match between Goffin and Thiem was momentous not only because the winner of them will play in their first grand slam semi final but also because either of them will also enter top 10. Thiem with his quarter final win is now ranked 7th with 3105 points and is behind Nishikori who is at 4290 points.

Next match is a difficult one for him as he will play world no 1 Novak, and even if he goes down, he still has many positive takeaways from this tournament.

I hope he ends up being the bread winner of the younger generation moreso than Kygrios. He seems far more likeable and less of a douchey personality than Kygrios.
Dominic seems like a really nice and down to earth guy. He is a great example to all fans on how to behave on and off court. I like everything about Thiem and I think he'll have the edge over the rest of his generation due to his great attitude.

Dimitrov was nice on court 2 years back, then the losing start and him breaking racket in every match, even getting defaulted at mp.

It's a great achievement that Thiem made it to the SF in a slam but that's as far as he will go this time.
It's going to be a fascinating game. Thiem pushed Novak pretty hard earlier this year in Miami and it'll be even closer on clay. I believe Thiem will do it in 4 close sets. I think the Stanimal is going to show up and win in straight sets tomorrow to set up a one handed backhand duel in the final.

Well, we will see tomorrow.

I said before the tournament that Dominic would make the final and I still believe he will. It's looking great for fans of the one handed backhand. Dominic vs Stan here we come.
Well Kudos to you, but I hope the second part of your prediction doesn't come true :p

I reckon his spree will end here in SF, it will be a bridge too far for him. In addition i will be rooting for Novak, maybe in some other tournament i will root for Dominic but certainly not against Novak.

I agree he seems well suited to be a top player for years to come. In addition to his game, he comports himself in a mature, professional manner.

Novak vs Andy pls

That's the final I hope for. I'd feel quite confident in Novak in that potential matchup. Weather will warm up and clear a bit, which is good as I'd like to see the final played out fully on Sunday, with no shenanigans.

Fortunately, it will still be relatively cool, slow clay for Sunday. Looks great for Novak to be honest, I'm really not sure AM can hang with him over 5 sets in those conditions, SW would be a way worse for opponent for ND.

Among age 25 and below players Raonic still looks like has had the best career.

Raonic - 2 SF
Dimitrov - 1 SF
Janowicz - 1 SF
Thiem - 1 SF
Kyrgios - 2 QF
Goffin - 1 QF
Tomic - 1 QF

Did I miss someone?

You were right. Even though I'm still feeling disappointed right now there are many positives to take. Dominic is the world number 7 now. He is 5th in the wtf race. He has won many tournaments this year and is a grand slam semi finalist. It wasn't his day but as another famous Austrian would say: He'll be back.

Well, cracking the top 10 doesn't come anywhere near being able to beat the World Number 1 in a slam SF, which is why your prediction on this match was highly irrational.

Once Thiem gets some more matches under his belt at slam SF and finals, then he might have a more realistic chance.
