Received my 4th Angell and had it strung with Halo at 59/57.

I read that Halo was powerful so I decided not to turn up the SW and match my other frames just yet. So instead of my usual 360sw I'm at 342. First impressions are quite good.
Pros:
-feels really smooth/plush/comfortable even at 59/57. I could go even higher easily.
-surprising control considering this is not a stiff string at all.
-Good power. I'm glad I didn't add lead to my frame. At 360 I would have had way too much power. But as is it was perfect.
-Good spin. Not great. But enough and probably better than average for a multi. I could hit some sharp angles that I didn't think would stay in. Good kick on the serve too.
-Very fun to play with, the blend of power, control, feel and spin is pretty good for non poly.

Cons:
-Strings don't snap back. I only play poly or gut/poly and usually when the string don't snap back it means my strings are shut. Kinda got tired of repositionning the strings so I just played with crooked strings.
-Longevity, I played for an hour and there is already obvious damage to the strings. I'm not sure they'll last very long.

Summary: If these were poly with snap back and some more spin and a bit less lively, they would probably be a string I'd want to keep in at least one frame at all times. But I'm used to play poly so I don't know. However, if I was playing multis, this would probably be my go to string. I'll need a couple more sessions to see.
Which racquet?

Hey a little off topic, I just noticed that you have an extended version, was wondering if you ever noticed that an extended version is a little more harsher on the elbow than the standard length ?

I agree with your cons about Halo. The way they immediately notch and constantly need straightening is a big turn off. And also, it's not a multi. It's a polyamide like Head Rip Control. Yes it's soft with decent power and control but IMO there are many better choices out here. Head Velocity is a great control multi that is soft and the strings never need straightening.

Ive been play testing out my new TC97 (310g 9HL 27.25" leather grip strung w Cyclone 17 55/53) for the last 2 days and here are some first impressions:

Im coming from Babolat weighted APD and PAT; Im a 4.0 baseline.

-Forehand/Backhand: Loved it right away, I can rip insane, hard balls and thats exactly what I was missing using PAT. The spin is enough and the power is intoxicating. Like other reviews pointed out the dwell time is really noticeable right away and over all I was blown away how forgiving TC97 is. Plow through is definitely there and I had no problem hitting with hard hitters at all. Ive also noticed that my follow through became better which feels great (I attribute it to a slightly extended length). Defensive shots and slices were fantastic as well and having a slightly extended version definitely helped there.

-Volleys and Serves: Im not great at the net to begin with but having a slightly ext. version didn't help here and I need more time to adjust using it I think. As my overall game doesn't require me to be at the net often I don't really mind it being a bit cumbersome which I think Ill manage with more practice. Serves I didn't do too many but ext. version should help and just have adjust to the new length.

Other thoughts: Whatever everyone is saying about quality of the Angell racquets is true. At first, my impression was that I didn't like the glossy black PJ (esthetically speaking), however, on day 2 I took out my PAT and it looked like something you buy in Toy'R'Us (kid's toy store) compared to Angell. I chose handle B for my racquet 4 3/8 and compared to Babolats its a bit smaller w the leather grip and also the shape is a bit different but I don't mind the shape at all and I think in fact it is a bit better. I slapped on blue tourna OG and yonex dampener and compared to PAT which is 6HL TC97 9HL felt more head heavy but again partially maybe because of the ext. length on my TC97. Maybe Ill add some weight to the handle later on. I usually play w Wilson or Yonex OGs which are heavier than Tourna's so maybe that will help as well when I put them on instead in the next couple of hitting sessions. Paul measured my frame swing weight at 307 unstrung, my stringer measured it at 302 (w tourna OG added now) unstrung and I think 335 w cyclone 17 55/53 (doubt my stringer is accurate but as long as I know Im around 330 SW ballpark thats what I like). So overall Im extremely pleased so far and am thinking of ordering another one or maybe wait and get the 18/20 version in August. One thing though my elbow felt a little discomfort from hitting in the last 2 days, especially after I was practicing overheads but my thoughts are it is again due to me not being used to ext. length combined w higher swing weight as compared to PAT, but those putaway shots are worth it ;)

P.S. I was also amazed how easy it is to control and aim with this racquet, it is really as easy as point and shoot as compared to PAT APD and even Yonex AI100 and AI98 that I used before.

I stand corrected. I never play anything other than poly or gut/poly. So I don't exactly know what else is out there. :)

It was definitely better than the last multi I played with though (Wilson Sensation).

Not for me.
But my gf had to go back to 27". She had elbow pain developping. Went back to 27 and pain did not return.

More likely that the different grip shape/size is causing something. Small changes in that realm can tweak the elbow if it's making you grip too tightly or something. If the grip size is smaller than you're used to, I'd recommend putting an overgrip or two on it to make it more to what you're used to. Or just stick with it and the elbow issue may go away as you adjust.

I'm used to long strokes but my TC95 makes me have to shorten it to control it.
Take away lead at 12 or up the tension?

As I've already stated several times, I'm on 60 with full poly in 18x20 TC95 and I don't have to hold back. Spin is excellent, as is comfort, power is still plenty but a sense of control even in full throttle strokes is present.

TC95, with its inherent power and plow, will never be as control oriented as extremely low powered Dunlop Bio 300Tour but it's still the best power/control/spin/comfort combo I've experienced in a tennis racquet.

Yes. Had a PS97 earlier this year and now play the TC97 at a similar spec. 330 strung and 8 points hl. I prefer the TC97 in every way. Better feel, more comfortable and much more predictable than the PS. Wilson feels hollow and jarring in comparison to the plush feel of the TC97.

Either one will reduce power. If you like the swingweight where it is then leave the lead and up the tension and/or try a more controlling poly.

Going out to hit with my TC95 in a little bit. Some serving practice with a little bit of groundstroke hitting. Really pumped for this as this is supposedly an amazing serving racquet. I'd like to have a racquet that can help me consistently crack 85-100 MPH on my serve. My average is around 70-75 with the occasional 85 mph ace down the middle. I'm also interested to see how different the feel is on the 95 compared to the TC97. We shall see.

Strung with Savage at 52 ibs. I hope it's not too loose.

It's so intriguing to order a TC97 18x20 once it's available, but I must be strong. I've just played "seriously" (as with a coach, not matches :() for 8 months and I'm still quite a beginner. Moreover, I really enjoy the Ai 100 with a leather grip and a more HL balance, but this Angell racquets must be so awesome from what I read. Good thing I have a girlfriend, otherwise I'd probably have 6 Angell racquets and 1000€ less, haha.

Nevertheless, if there are many positive reviews about this upcoming beauty I might not withstand my inner pressure any longer. I have always wanted to try out a 18x20 frame and what could be better than a TC97 to do so? :)

Edit: I just realized: why is the TC97 Tour 63 RA but the custom version is only available as 66? For me, 66 seems finer though :)

After much deliberation, I just ordered a Custom TC97 as my second Angell frame. Before I bought my Custom TC100 RA63, I played with the Wilson PS97. I decided to get the TC97 because I think it will play closer to the PS97 with a little more comfort and predictability. Chose the 310g at 9 points HL before stringing.

For 5g you'd be at the same specs of PS 97. Looking forward your views on your new frame.

Interesting. I don't find myself needing to shorten my strokes switching to my TC95, but my TC95 isn't leaded in the hoop, only in the handle.

Because the custom is measured Pre build and the tour is measured fully set up with a grip. They are the same flex accounting for that difference.

He really should tweak that on the site just to make it simpler, it is a touch confusing.

Meanwhile, I received a custom frame from another country faster than I've received some shipments from one tennis shop that uses Express in the name and another that's in the mid west. Pretty darn impressive.

lol I went to customize a racquet that is being offered by a company named after a body part and it's almost double the price of Angell with a standard delivery wait of 6 weeks! :)

Well, I had to lead up the PS 97 as it was a little light and flimsy for me. No such worries with the TC97. The feel is so much better from the Angell that you have the confidence to swing out and thus generate more power. Most noticeable on serve. The PS97 is a good serving racket but the TC97 blows it away. You can feel the head flex and deliver a mighty thwack to the ball. Serves are so heavy with the TC97. I served 12 aces in 4 sets last night (including 3 in one game). I never normally get this many.

I would definitely say the TC97 is a more powerful racket than the PS97 but that's a good thing in my book.

After reading the glowing reviews here I am considering getting some TC95, I got so curious about these frames! I currently play with Yonex 95D, grip size 2. I do not consider switching rackets as I play great with the 95D, leaded to 364r with og and dampener. In particular the handle feels great (its shape is definitely not the same as, say, the DR98 or the Vcore Tour F 93). Could someone tell me precisely what are shapes A, B and C, and what would be closest to a 95D. For info, while I can also play with a tk82s, I absolutely can't play with a tk57 style for instance. Thanks for your response!

The C shape is definitely most similar like the TK82S one.

I'm not sure what you realized exactly but both TC97 tour or custom are the same frame and exactly same RA. Only difference custom is quoted RA before handle/grip goes on and tour with handle on since it is a molded handle.

Earlier the Head,Dunlop Wilson and Prince grip shapes were available with Custom Vantage rackets.
Is the Angell gripshape B (exactly) the same as the Wilson shape of the Vantage?

Hit with my TC100 last night for the first time after being modified by @Geoff. First things first the specs are 11.96 ounces, 8 pts HL, SW 337, RA 63. String at 55 with Luxilon ALU Power.

First impressions.
Tons of power and spin. Struggled a little at the net where I usually volley very well. Racket felt sluggish coming around but if I caught it out in front I could pummel the ball. No serves or returns because I haven't been playing and just wanted to hit some cross courts and volleys.

It was good enough to make me really want to get an RA70 for a SW in the 325 range. That thing would be an amazing racket for me.

I'm going to hit some more with it before pulling the trigger. I should be able to handle the current SW and don't know if I was tired last night or just timing was off from not hitting much the last few months.

More to follow but very impressive power and spin from a thin beamed flexy frame.

I bought a Custom TC100 63RA. I like it a lot but may want a little stiffer frame. Is the TC100 the same as the Custom TC100 after assembly? Also, bought the lower RA for comfort. Will I give up the comfort of I buy the Custom TC100 70RA?

Please count me in the Angell Club☺️

I have ordered a TC100 RA70, 310g 31,5cm and waiting for its arrival on Monday.

I had the pleasure to test a TC100 RA63 with the same specs (except for the SW) as the one I ordered, and will be able to compare the two next week.

Both also match the specs of my current modified Prince TT100T, so I was very lucky to be able to test one right at my specs.

As many others on this thread, I like the feel of the racquet a lot, reminding me of the stability of the K SixOne 95, but in a lighter package and a much more plush feel.

I felt the higher SW of the RA63 compared to my TT100T and other earlier racquets and so I wanted to compare myself the trade off between higher SW and higher RA in the two TC100 versions. Having access to both I hope to figure out which of them would be a better fit for my game. The feel and my forearm/elbow will have a decisive influence on my choice, as I have a tendency to elbow pain from stiffer racquets but have also noticed some strain from some higher SW or hh/even balanced racquets.

Looking forward to playing with the TC100's and sharing and reading experiences of these great racquets. I will also test a TC97 before making my choice.

Thanks to all of you who have contributed so much to this thread. Reading through all of it was a major effort☺️ but well worth the time with all the valuable information in here.

struggling to remove the staples from buttcap, any suggestions please?

If you have a screw driver for eye glass screws like the ones in the arms, u can tease it carefully under the staple & slowly turn it to lift it slightly until you can fit a larger screwdriver underneath - works on the pallet too. I took alot of pics when I did it - just haven't had the time to post yet but will try my best to do it soon

My backhand is one of the longest stokes attemptable and Im definitely not shortening my forehand... try a more controlled but stiff full poly at say 50lbs. Max power is the lowest powered option out there but Kirschbaum Super Smash orange also works. 4G is another option.

I play with RS Lyon at 45lbs but I'm acclimated to lower tension full poly. RSlyon is a very nice option.... I can hit out all I want... Just remember the Angells have power in reserve... I hit at 80% power for rally balls but I add extra spin when I really go for it... it is a dynamic frame that requires a bit of dialing in to get the most out of it. That said It took me a few weeks to sort out the power.

Now I just try to hit smooth and with good contact, with my X feel pro 95 I had to kill the ball at say 85-95% to keep from producing short sitters. No I hit 80% and just watch the forced kind of unforced errors roll in because it is such a heavy ball. Very headlight is important too... it lets you adapt.

Got a TC100 RA70 in the mail. It weights 12.05 strung and feels noticeably lighter than my 63RA which weighs in around 11.7. I feel like I can feel the extra weight in the throat with the 63RA. I'm curious to hit with the 70RA to see if it translates to better RHS for me. I found the 63RA sluggish in doubles for me but I'm used to lower SWs than 338

I'll go with 4G since I'm used to the luxilon feel. (Using full ALU soft atm) 4G supposedly has best tension maintenance out of all the luxilons.
Edit: just compares the TW reviews of both and the ALU Soft has better tension maintenance than 4G?

Edit 2: I'll try the 4G anyway so I won't have to go up in tension to control the shot. The silver looks cooler than this yellowish string :(
