are you nadalgirl26? i swear i made a thread called Tennis Masters Cup 2006: Shanghai, where all the posts were supposed to fall under it

oh well...good match ups for sure, with federer-nalbandian to kick it off, and next day with nadal-blake

i wanted to see roddick in nadal's group, but there is an in-form davydenko in it, and blake

although i dont like how rafa's best friend brags of nadal hitting topspin balls which will go over federer's head and all that nonsense, i think nadal will beat blake in this round robin match

i see federer destroying nalbandian, and federer-roddick semi, and nadal-davydenko semi for saturday

at least thats what i'd like to see :)

I suspect the same, but switched. Fed vs Davy; Nalby vs Blake.

You could be right, Blake was playing some good stuff on the indoor season if you ignore the Masters Series and Davydenko had the great win in Paris. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out the way you suggested.

Last time I checked Nadalgirl26 couldn't spell. Maybe she's learned how to spell and turned into a man so therefore is Nadal's best friend.

How did they determine the two groupings? Is it just a random draw? Why didn't they just go strictly by the rankings, as in the odd rankings in one group and the even rankings in the other group or RED: #1, #3, #5, #7 and GOLD: #2, #4, $6, #8?

If they did do it this way then, Davydenko and Ljubicic should switch groups since Davydenko is ranked #3 and Ljubicic is ranked #4.

Nadalgirl could spell (there are some good post from her somewhere, believe it or not) but didn't want to most of the time. You know, she never proved to us to be female...;)
Anyway, as soon as nadalgirl26 left this borad "Nadal's best friend" shows up, coincidence?

How it's done: 1 and 2 go in separate groups. Then the other players are drawn in pairs according to ranking, with the first drawn going in number 1's group and the other going in number 2's.

If that is the case, what happened at Dubai early this year ? Did Nadal get lucky? I believe Fed had said in post match interview that he played his best tennis and RAFA still blew him off the court......

Doesn't matter what happened in Dubai. Nadal is not going to win his group--Blake will.

I have read that Blake is just coming off a injury and is Not 100%, this works right into RAFA's hands and besides RAFA donen't have to win the group to make it into semis anyway, RAFA will the tournament that is what matters.

Nadal will be lucky to make the semi-finals. I hope he does because I want to see him play Nalbandian. That aside, what about the model ball girls, damn it?

why not red and blue? gold?

Good question..

The red and gold are Chinese people's two most favorite colors.

In fact, the two colors are reserved for emperors.
If you treat your guest with these two colors, it means ultimate
welcome and respect. For example, when Clinton visited China
there were red and gold colors all over the places.
(Some chinese people got angry because they think those colors
should be reserved for emperers and there is only one emperer in this world)

In some way, I can interpret as they're welcoming 8 players
who are ruling this world.

Then again, you visit cheap local chinese restaurants, you can
easily spot red and gold combined.

You watch Hong-Kong movies, they use warm red back ground
colors with gold in many occasions...

Disclaimer: I'm neither a chinese nor chinese culture expert.

Thanks. Hmmm...what a strange way to do it. Why not just put all the odd ranking players in one group and all the even ranking players in the other group. Seems to make a lot more sense and be a lot simpler to me.
