2017 Pure Strike

Specs look good now it's time to see how this actually plays. I am not sure why people keep mentioning how wonderful the Pure Drive plays. Maybe it's a Babolat thing but to me, it feels hollow and tinny compared to Wilson racquets in general but maybe if you hit with lots of topspin, it's a great racquet not so much if you drive the ball.

Nothing about comfort level and strung RA value in the review. That would have been both interesting and relevant I feel.

The written text in the video description says "a tad more comfortable than a pure drive". For me that is a reason to stay with my current strikes since they are "much more comfortable than a pure drive". :)

The video review makes it very clear that the reviews were conducted using a range of different strings so I can understand why they wouldn't mention strung RA values. It would introduce unnecessary confusion into the review.

Babolat has published the unstrung RA number. Use that number as a worse case and subtract 2 or 3 points for a strung racquet. "Comfort" is a very subjective thing. What may be comfortable for me might be very uncomfortable for you.

Suggest you demo the racquet before coming to such a conclusion. Without a demo, you may not know what you are missing :)

To me the comfort is on the bottom of the wishlist - after years of pd and apd strung with 16 and 15 poly strings strung at 62 to bring the power down everything is comfortable ;) But I have some other stuff from 57 to 64 ra and they are comfortable but not forgiving on mishits - good for feel, but bad for winning points.

If only it had the paint scheme of the previous Strike, although white would be my second choice.

I couldn't agree more. The white is so vanilla/plain, it's curtailed my excitement quite a bit. If you put 100 tennis players in a room and asked them which color scheme they prefer, I bet 80% would go with the black/red over the white. Just my bet, based on feedback I've received over the years with my old strikes. I wish they had A/B tested with some color options before going with the prototype color. Maybe we'll get lucky and Babalot will offer an alternative paint job down the line.

Of coure, you´re right. But my wallet may disagree with yet another new racquet in the bag. And my conscience (having bought alot of racquets the past two years) :)

I'm stoked to see the TWU specs (twist weight and sweet zone). Definitely going to demo.

Nice!

No it wouldn't.
"-RA stiffness value varied between 66 and 67 depending on string choice so we feel it reminds us about X and Y but slightly more comfortable than Z."
No confusion.

I challenge your implied assertion that lower RA values means "more" comfort. As I stated in my prev. post, "comfort" is a highly subjective characteristic.

I totally agree with you that comfort is subjective.
Which is exactly why I felt that the reviewers should utilize their unparalleled opportunity to share their thoughts on the matter.

You have to laugh when you examine the chronology of the Pure Strike: The racquet is basically brought into existence to be Tsonga's stand alone model (and an attempt to create a Babolat 'player's stick' that might actually sell); Tsonga drops the racquet like sixth period French - claiming his modified Aero+ has way more power - leaving the Strike flat lining in marketing limbo; just when all seems lost Thiem and his spectacular game rise to the top with his 'orphan' racquet going on to sell at a two for one discount and Babolat decide to play 'if at first you don't succeed...' and mildly revamp the Strike mould - and for good measure reposition the Control in the hope it will catch some of the sales hype pixie dust being generated. Before he pulled the pin,Tsonga was meant to be using a customised/weighted 27.5" version of the Strike 100, despite no plus length models being available retail and the existence of a heavier 'tour' model. Anyone know what Thiem is really using? Is he actually on board with the 'new' model? How will his game cope with such a radical change, and one made 'on the fly'?
You are actually a realist :)

and Thiem did not switch you can still see indent at 3 and 9 :

I don't want to start a debate about "comfort" levels but how does someone else's opinion of "comfort" apply to your personal view of it if you haven't directly experienced it yourself?

I could play with a racquet and say it is the most comfortable racquet I have ever used. You could play the same racquet based on my opinion and find it is the least comfortable one you have ever used.

Sharing such thoughts does not add any intrinsic value to these types of reviews. If anything, it would probably detract from the review because observers would start questioning play-testers' credibility.

I see lead tape but I don't see indent.

Are you sure that the lead tape isn't creating a bit of an optical illusion that looks like an indent? Or are you talking about something else I'm not seeing in that picture?

In any case, why would you care either way. You aren't Dominic Thiem are you? So why do you care what racquet he uses anyway?

Perhaps, but is the same not true of the other attributes that they talk of? Taken to its logical conclusion we would have no reviews, simply spec charts. And even then, if the experience is different in the hand of the player than it is on the objectively measured specs, why have them either? Of course it's preferable to experience all of this in a demo, but prior to that, and in helping us all to determine what to demo, I think there is a role for their reviews, including how the playtesters experience the comfort.

+1. In addition, if play testing was useless you'd think it would be not an industry-wide practice. The reviews may be relative, but they are good enough for me to get an insight into the product.

Could not find specs on TW website
I would like to see the specs of the PS16x19 and PS100
Anybody can help?
Thx

If you go to the details page of a new racquet - Babolat Pure Aero or Wilson Pro Staff, for example - click on the Racquet Power Map link; you can find the new Pure Strike racquets in the drop-down menu. Keep in mind, this is from TWU Prof's sample, and may differ slightly from the specs listed on the hopefully-soon-to-be-displayed product pages.

Got a 90 score!!
Looking forward to read the review for the PS100
Both are quite attractive
What kind of ridiculous rating! 94 on groundstrokes. That makes me just want to buy it straight up without demoing lol. I hope it lives up to the hype cuz I've never seen a racquet drastically improve that much from a previous iteration that was not well-liked at all.

Will be trying out both 18x20 and 16x19, as well as the VS Tour version. Pure Strike Tour is my favorite, as well as I really liked the Pure Control Tour, so I am happy that they may feel different but didn't create something entirely new.

@BabolatOfficial

Any word on when the racquets will be available on TW EU or more generally in Europe?

Check your eyes. :)

I don't care what Dominic is using in sense of me trying to be like him I care about lies that Babolat is spreading and trying to deceive us one more time.

Maybe Thiem will switch to the new frame in the off season. But right now it seems clear he's still on the old pure strike. Not surprising as I don't believe pros make huge change like that mid-season.

Look at the pic again and zoom in...clear indentation. Also zoom in on the bumper guard...same as original pure strike just in black. Case closed!

Indent and unless they didn't change the bumper on the new one, this is a Pure Strike bumper (notice the little U shaped notches).
Looking at TW website, there is no indent in their pictures. Nice pickup.

I still love my 18x20, though will be ordering one of the new ones in Feb... when they launch US.

@atatu,

Sorry for any confusion. We do have the same criteria for each racquet. The scores will all be visible in the graph at the bottom of the review. In the past, we didn't show all of the different scores on the top box but in the last couple months have added all the criteria in the top box.

Thanks,
Brittany, TW

The scores on this racquet review are freaking OUT OF CONTROL.
Can someone find a racquet review that has this kind of rating that is not Federer's racquets?

DR98 has pretty good numbers but I'd have to check to seee how they compare to the pure strike review.

And it's beaten across the board. I dunno if I've ever seen a racquet receive 90+ in so many categories.
