Can anyone hit late AMs/early PMs near Dr Phillips? I'm trying to get back into playing again but can't travel far.
I played for years during my 20's/30's, tapered off a bit after that, started hitting in earnest for two years before I started the biking and now would like to find a hitting buddy or two nearby with similar level and availability. I can keep the ball in play for rallying and God knows my legs are stronger now. Gotta loosen up the shoulder but I'll use the sureshsian mantra of "the conscious movement of the right shoulder" while practicing my rusty serve.I've never seen you write about playing tennis, I'm stunned.

Man, I forgot I posted this...it was quite a while back.Didnt know you were in orlando, enjoyed your posts here. Im two stop signs away from ft gatlin, i prefer not to travel too far to hit. I prefer to ralley more than play/run unless half court doubles or something.
Let me know, if im really bad i have a nice cart (foldable master pro $180, really nice, holds like 225) in trunk and can feed you balls

I'd love to hit sometime but I no longer have a car to roam Orlando. My nearest public courts are at Lake Cane but there's a court near me on I-Drive and Carrier that I can use because a friend of mine lives on the hotel property. Is that too far for you?
Big Alex is just part time at the desk now...Marcelo's son runs the show now.Ya too far for me, i like late afternoon and the traffic getting to that side of town builds up. Possibly lake cane, havent seen alex or marcelo in a while, some of the nicest guys ive ever met, but i hate to drive.

I got back into tennis again playing in a ladder league at Fort Gatlin. I only play on hard courts these days under protest so it has been a long while since I've been over there.
Your not playing downtown anymore? I havent been down there in like a month.
I still play downtown until that facility gets the old wrecking ball.
If you ever wanna hit some at ft gatlin let me know, weather is great. Membership (i have to pay now that im not teaching there) expired at otc and not worth it for me to renew.
You used to teach at OTC? I've been playing there for probably 8 years now so I may know your mug. Since I play singles several times a week, I rarely play on hard courts to try and save my knees.
I have hit next to you on court 3 (with a big guy), you were on 2. I had the orange tubes and long sleeves with a 1h. Straw hat sometimes.
Im not really competitive now a days, but like hitting. If you ever wanna travel to my side, let me know. Half court is fun and easy on the knee's (one on one doubles style).
I get bored with hitting. The thrill of competing is too strong for me. Next time I'm at Gatlin, I'll see if you are around.
Gotta set it up, its not like the old days at otc where people hang around and grab a match. Im two stop signs (.4 miles) from there, pretty flexible.
You dont recognize me, but you will. Im at least a 4.5, so it would be a good time, we can play if you want to though.
If you randomly show up, ask John or Junior to find me. Gatlin has some talent now, John played davis cup for virgin islands and junior traveled with roddick as hitting partner. I dont like otc now, tom is killing the place.
I'm a planner, so I don't randomly show up! I have a lot of good memories at Fort Gatlin, that is where I got back into the game in Orlando. When are you normally available?
I saw you mostly in the late afternoon, thats perfect for me as well. Schedule has opened up but making the best out of it. Im only bad on mondays and saturdays.
Yeah during the week it is late afternoons. Weekends it is in the AM.
Nothing before 1pm for me. I also maybe interested in getting a set of cyclone off you, if you have extra. Heard great things about that string and my poly reel is getting low.
Maybe next wednesday if your open. Im seeing 82-65 temperatures, pretty perfect.
Another nice thing about Gatlin is they have online reservations, can get a court a week from now. Multiple reservations etc. A huge step up from otc.
Yeah I signed up for the reservation system but have not used it yet. I'm scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday next week. My elbow has been acting up with the wet balls at OTC lately so I'm not sure if I can go 3 days in a row until it clears up. Let me see how it feels Sunday.
I just got a new reel of Cyclone so I have plenty but they sell it locally in packs as well. You just have to make the trip down to I-drive.
Its a bit of drive but love their dog. Never bounce a ball in front of him, after the first bounce its his
Wed or Thurs the following week would be good too, take care of that elbow.
I haven't seen Rocco in a long time. He has been at the Tampa store.
He reminded me of eddy from Frazier.
If anyone else wants to hit/play at gatlin, let me know. Would probably need at least a 4.0 (or cant ralley). Great weather, best time of the year.
I had to stop after a set yesterday. My elbow was on fire. I'm probably going to have to sit for a week or more.
Maybe time to change your sig. Do you run full poly or hybrid? Maybe look into some multi's until your elbow is better. If you had to quit your looking at a month at least.
Some people have gotten good results with electro stimulation, those little pads with cords. Its also good to put pressure on both sides and twist, realigns fibers, really hits the spot.
Its going to be cold and windy anyways, rain out tomorrow, always nice to see when your injured.
BTW what happened to Gator? I have not seen him post or I have not ran across him at all in like years
He's around. If my elbow is good enough by tomorrow, we are scheduled to play.
Junior tournament? He grew up in Dade City, about 50 miles from here.Jim Courier was at OTC around lunch hitting with some juniors. Mayor Buddy Dyer was there as well. I just saw a story on News 13 where Courier was saying that he played at OTC when he was a little kid. I never knew that.
Are you guys going to this?
I know he was born in Sanford but the family moved to Dade City when he was very young. I was thinking he might have played a junior event there in the early 80's either before his move to NBTA or on a "field trip". This was way before Lake Cane became Tournament Central for the kids.Free tickets, free parking = no thanks.
He grew up in sanford i think, otc wasnt too far of drive back then. I think they were the closest club with clay.
Tom, they have usta development there, courier is a usta guy doing an event and its right next to the new arena
Say hello to Hector...he'll remember me from back then when I strung a few racquets for his juniors. Not next door like it used to be, but very close. You know what i mean
Amre was at Ft gatlin, moved to lake mary (had a nice little club) now selling real estate. Last i heard
Hector was at Otrc, i still see him.
I think otc had red clay back then. There used to be courts on both sides, i think the side where the old arena was were red.
Heathrow used to be really expensive, not sure his family could afford that place.
