"players racquet" performance with a dampened feel

I do not need a racquet to generate power for me. However, my arm did twinge a bit more than normal after switching to my new LM Radical OS during a 3 setter the other night. Is there a lower power racquet with a narrow beam that sacrifices some "ball feedback" for a much more dampened feel? My favorite dampened handle I've played with is the Dunlop Super Revelation with ISIS handle. The Dunlop players racquets, however, don't come with this. I don't want to be "punished" by mishits with arm ache. Or, would simply adding weight to the Radical help this? I added a balanced 1/2 ounce last night, and may add more if it feels good hitting against a wall this afternoon.

This is with the stock strings, so maybe a softer string also? Has anyone else felt some pain with the LM Rad?

I played quite well with it.

We have the same taste....

Basically any 10 by Volkl, and some 9s will give you that feel.
The Fischers are great too.
I like the older HEAD Prestiges.

Do not discount the Babolat Pure Control, especially if you use the right string for your tastes.

Put a Gamma Shockbuster to any decently stable racket and you get a dampened feel.

Keep the racquet and try different strings...if you are playing well with it and want to adjust feel, that makes a lot more sense than any switch at this point.

You can look at multis like: (sorted from softer to crisper, my opinion)

- NXT (though not so durable)
- Yonex Pro Spin
- Alpha Sphere
- Technifibre X-1 Biphase
- Klip Excellerator

There are other soft multis that are a bit less expensive than above (range from 12 to 15 dollars). Check out the Strings and Stringing forum....there are a few threads on soft/comfy strings.

You can also modify the string tension.

If you are OK w/the cost and not a string breaker you could try gut...the best, IMHO, for feel and comfort.

Talk w/your local stringer about what you want to adjust and get his/her recommendation as well.

be careful adding the weight...it's a myth that adding weight will necessarily help with arm problems..you could already be swinging something too heavy for you and adding weight could make your problem worse
you also dont mention what string and tension you are using
also make sure you have the right gripsize and arent using a leather grip

I agree with Slice. The Volkl 10 & 9 that I have are really dampened, yet having a sufficient ball feel. The Prestige may be more of a solid "thud" than a dampened feel, IMO, but feelin' good.

i think any 200 or 300 series dunlop
any volkl 10 series and some 9 series

both of these fit yoru description perfectly, just add a nice soft string like excel, any gut, nxt, etc should work out nicely. and despite a lot of people talking about the stiffness of the babolat pure control, i played with it for almost 5 years and never had a single arm problem with it, must be something in the woofer system and i always play soft strings...

I played quite well with it <the LM Rad OS>.

I don't think most of the people replying to this thread are really listening to you... :)

Don't switch racquets, certainly not yet. Vary your strings, tension, and ensure your form is good.

There's too much jumping of ships encouraged by rabid racquet lovers (like myself, frankly, mea culpa) who love to go around recommending frames. Your case does not sound like someone who should jump to a new frame w/out trying some simple mods to your existing setup.

My son has hit w/the LM Rad OS for about two years w/nary a twinge, and a couple friends I play with off and on use it as well...it's not a racquet known to cause arm issue as far as I've heard/seen.

Yeah don't waste money. Add a little lead to 3&9 because maybe your swing got faster, straining your elbow, the lead will slow it down to a comfortable speed.

Also stock Head strings are crap. get it restrung with a good soft synthetic like Prince Original or a nice soft muilti.
