Pouille is doing his best to save @Meles reputation :p

Look very good.
If he wins this he'll have a good chance of beating ARV. Pouille playing like this against Rafa in final.

Pouille's touch so good his drop shot stopped bouncing by the time of service line. Koenig approved.

Pouille striking the ball beautifully so far this set. Cuevas playing poorly though must be said.

We've come to associate Pouille with finesse and all court game, but my first impression seeing him was that he had a big game like Gulbis, but serve not as good as prime Gulbis. Pouille's power off ground really something with the finesse. His serve is stronger this year and should get even better. I thought with the slow start this year that Pouille had physically peaked. This is a pleasant surprise.

He hit 215 km/h (134) in this match, that's solid for sure. I've felt his serve has sometimes left something to be desired, but it's something he'll be improving as he ages surely. He has more to go on in terms of hitting the spots.

But yeah, I agree. He's a wonderful mix of smooth but powerful strokes combined with dat finesse and all-court capability. Just wonderful for the game.

I've been cool on Pouille because of his paltry stats, but then you see matches like this.:D Though Cuevas having other ideas now.

Hehe.
I had a spat with them about the lack of commentary on Murray's R2 match on replay.
You get it on some R1 250's but Djoko, Nadders, Wawr all had Robbie and Nick and co. from the off.
So I asked why not the world no.1?
Two emails from them they just tried to fob me of with some matches don't have commentary.

2nd Response was
"Dear Steve,

Thank you for your email. We apologise for any inconvenience, but some of the matches do not have any commentary. If you can hear arbitrary noises, such as bird calls, then that means that there is no commentary on the matches. If you can't hear any sound at all then please let us know and we can look in to that.

Kind regards,
TennisTV"

The day after the match is on replay corrected with commentary.

Gone completely down the drain already:confused:

But yeah, I think certain players like Kyrgios and Pouille are examples of how just reading off of the stats board can't supplant also watching matches. They both possess gears that surpass what their aggregate match-to-match stats reflect. And they have both showed an ability to be fearless on the big stage, which I think is important in the longer term.

IMO Pete was slightly like that too. Paltry return stats that didn't do justice to his ability to raise his game when he needed to.
