ATP World Tour Finals to stay in London till 2020 under new sponsor.

They didn't see a need to switch locations, that's for sure (benefits some of us, in any case!)

The ATP Finals has previously been held in locations like Shanghai, Houston and New York among others and Djokovic has before led calls for the host city to be rotated.

Kermode said: “There is a school of thought to move it around to expose tennis in different regions. But time has changed, where the exposure of the sport through TV in particular makes that less important. People have access to it and can see the event live.

“I believe all the best sporting events in the world are in the same parts of the calendar, at the same venue - you know where [Royal] Ascot is, Wimbledon is, the US Open is, the Monaco Grand Prix - they are set and always in the same venue.”

I woulda preferred a new venue but I can't complain with this decision either.

Sucks though because I really liked Barclays sponsor. They went from having the rights to the ATP World Tour Finals and Premier League to nothing. Well at least they still have the Barclays center.

Finally ATP changed the ATP World Tour Finals to ATP Finals.

However, i don't like putting the sponsor name on it. It's one-step backwards.

The most popular sports events don't have sponsors on their names. like The Finals (NBA), SuperBowl (NFL), World Series (MLB), World Cup and Champions (Soccer).

There's something to this. Starting in 1977 the Masters (what the WTF used to be called) was held in Madison Square Garden for 13 years and enjoyed it's greatest success. It was an event the sports world followed, achieving a popularity that far exceeded it's first 6 years where it moved from Tokyo, Paris, Barcelona, Boston, Melbourne and Houston and it's later move to Europe.

No more free tickets if you have friends working for Barclays :( They gave out a lot of tickets, and some sold them online...I managed to get really good tickets, best tickets I have ever had. Close to the net, first row (the first first row is not for sale)
I dont like the venue itself and the setup, but its an excellent chance to see top players live w good seats.

I've been able to buy great tickets both times. Directly behind the court about 10 rows back. TV angle stuff.

Its a very different experience having good tickets close to the net, see the net clearance and how the ball snips the net. Unforgettable moments see these really powerful players blast a FH. Changed my view about Rafa and moonballing, he was clipping the net all the time, never seen a net clearance like that. Madness how these players become so good.

You are not far from London, and WTF is by far the easiest venue to get tickets in London. For Queens I think they only let you buy 2 tickets and harder to choose the day, on black market it gets very expensive. Talk about Wimbledon... I have probably spent more time hunting down tickets than actually watching matches in Wimbledon. I used to live in Wimbledon, and even for locals there it was hard to get tickets. The black marked for Wimbledon starts off 1 day, at least a grand for a ticket for either Court 1 or CC, and it gets more expensive day by day. Buying online is almost impossible. Its difficult as you can end up watching players you dont like that much and your fav player playing on the other court. There is possible to ask people if they want to switch tickets. Man, I get sweaty just thinking of getting Wimbledon tickets :eek:
People are camping in the Queue (THE QUEUE) for two days to get a CC or Court 1 ticket, its only 500 of each every day until finals.

Yeah from that perspective being right up close to the action is best, but I prefer to watch with my head in a steady position :p

Going to Queens this year as well, I finally got my ballot tickets in the post last Friday for Wimbledon (Court 1 tickets) but the deadline to pay was on the Wednesday AND the date was my girlfriends graduation. So bummed.

I dont live in SW19 anymore, but the 4 years I lived there I went to Wimbledon every year several times, it was a lot of job to get those tickets. Tempted to go back this year as now I have more contacts from the time I lived there and searching for tickets lol. Wimbledon is incredible really, you feel like you are in the best place of the world. The atmosphere ... nothing like it. Then after matches going out in Wimbledon village, so nice. Wimbledob show tennis in pubs, and its nice to watch there for days w no tickets. Often players and teams come too and watch together. Surrounded and intoxicated by tennis from all around. I love Wimbledon, best place I have ever lived and during Championships it was like heaven.

Edit @NatF ; so ballot tickets have to be in your name right? Otherwise you could have sold them and get a really good price. Maybe you could go in first show ID, and then go out again selling the ticket. Its worth a lot! At least a grand, depends which day. Could be 3 grand if later in the week, or weekend.

Yeah, getting tickets for the O2 is pretty straightforward as they only block off a few rows here and there. Queen's is ok, though only members can purchase last minute stand tickets
Wimbledon is an interesting one - it has the ballot system, the last-minute queue as you said, and the debenture system (which is the one I've been operating on for several years now). Debenture's pretty expensive, not gonna lie, but it's a contract that can be renewed for Centre Court at any given time - also the only type of ticket that can be freely sold on the open market. Offers an incredible degree of flexibility (if you want to catch certain matches)

I missed payment man. I probably would have gone (if only just after the graduation) but they arrived on the 19th and payment was by the 17th. I got tickets last year 2 but they were for a day I wasn't too interested in. Been a couple of times before though. Amazing really. Sad I'm not going.

But yeah they're not for resell.

Its the Debenture system is a good investement. If you dont go to any matches and Andy and Federer, Nadal (these players seem to push prices higher) playing you can make money it, more than you paid. right? Is it a 5 year year contract or something? Sometimes more interesting matches are shown on court one, but I guess you could just sell your seats for today and get a Court one ticket on the market? I have before bought tickets on black market early and sold them again day before match start as I wish to see another player, and I actually made money out of it. Tickets get more expensive close to the match.(price can triple in a day if f.ex Federer, Andy or Rafa playing) After a couple of years in Wimbledon I started getting better contacts and got tickets easier from other routes, tickets for a match but not the whole day.
Then we have maybe met then @Krish872007 .. If you liked going out in the Village after day is over ;)

Re_ debenture - It's like 50k this year - they'll probably try and screw people over on the resale
In the 90s they were closer to 2k and if you knew someone who was a member of the AEC you could get long-term (up to 50 years) contract extension through them. Amazing tournament, full of tradition - but ultimately it's still quite hierarchical

I played tennis in Wimbledon and were connected to a club, my son was too (started Wimbeldon tennis club over the street from AELTC from he was 1,5years crazy me) If you have kids playing, kids in school in Wimbledon, friends in other tennis clubs, you start to get offered tickets if you are in into tennis and playing. A lot of the tickets in Wimbledon are through tennis clubs around England as far as I have understood. CC is only about 20.000 people, right? 500 in the queue is the only tickets w reasonable pricing. Rest is very hard to get or you have to pay a lot to get it.

50K this year! Still, its the same as it cost for the final when Andy won first time on the black market, 2 tickets. I checked just for fun before the final.

It's not far at all, one flight of a several hours and I'll definitely attend the WTF in the near future. The "lucky you" phrase was more about the fact that you have friends taht could provide you with the tickets with excellent position. But, as I can see from your discussion with NatF, it seems that basically anyone can comfortably find the tickets with the sits she/he prefers. That's encouraging.

On the other hand, it's very frustrating and sad to hear that it's almost impossible (unless your father is Bill Gates or Larry Ellison) to find a ticket for the most significant tennis event. And, yes, thank you for all the details, I appreciate it.

Well thats because events are the pinnacle of those sports. The ATP finals is a less profitable event and more of an exo.

The Championships at Wimbledon doesn't have a title sponsor as far as I know. That's the Super Bowl of tennis for most people.

Regarding Nadal's chances, the funny thing is that he is not a bad indoor player at all. On contrary, I would say that he's done pretty well, considering the fact that he had to compete against two of the greatest indoor players (at least in Open Era), Federer and Djokovic. They robbed him of several titles there, in 2010 and 2013 for sure, 2006, 2007 and, to some extent, 2015 are debatable. I still think that he is a better indoor player than Murray, even though he hasn't won the Master Cup/WTF (yet).

That extremely good position ticket I bought on Viagogo 1 or 2 days before the match ;)
USO is easy to get tickets, but since the venue is so big its not the same. For me its almost useless to sit high up in USO. Not worth the travel for that. You can buy tickets like normal for RG early and also AO. Only Wimbledon difficult. The Ballot for Wimbledon I think starts in fall, start to search for it that time. People from other countries can also win the ballot. If you win its definetly worth the travel and experience Wimbledon. Its the best there is. Next to Wimbledon is Queens for me the best. Such a good atmosphere. Maybe its the brits..or the grass... the classyness. idk. But its special. WTF is not even comparable. Its many other events much nicer. Even Nice, Barcelona.. Atp250 and 500 can be nice too. Whats good about WTF is its easy to get good ticket, but its not a great venue at all if you have been around and seen other courts around Europe and compared.

To be more specific, London does. How about us beknighted provincials having to stay glued to our TV screens while you Londoners bag the cream of all the top British held tennis events and can just stroll or take the tube from one event to the other. Greedy b******s!!! :mad:

No. That distinction still belongs to Madison Square Garden, New York which held the event from 1977 to 1989, a period of 12 years. London's O2 Arena still has a way to go to top that.

On what grounds? Murray has 14 indoor titles and 3 other finals. Nadal has just 2 indoor titles and 5 other finals.

Yes, well - what can I say, we are lucky ;)

Would be nice for other major towns to host a big event for sure. So far Birmingham, Nottingham and Eastbourne all host the AEGON Classic, Open and International events respectively
