OK, serious now guys. Everyone vote for Federer in the poll from the article. If you're smart, you'd close the tab and re open it again so you can vote more than once.

I hate to say it, but this is the kind of stuff that sustains interest in tennis. How popular do you think tennis (or any sport) would be if there were no GOAT debates, no hypothetical scenarios, no ridiculous comparisons of statistics when there is no correlation, etc?

I know most of you are too old to have watched cartoons, but if anyone has seen the Fairly OddParents, you should take note of what happened in the episode where Crocker lost belief in fairies. It's a pretty good metaphor.

I agree, these comparison conversations happen in all sports, and are interesting if the arguments are realistic. Unfortunately, by some here, they can be ridiculous. Nadal is the greatest clay court player of his time, Roger the greatest grass court player since 03.

I think it's fine to have debates about GOAT and support your favourite. But what Roddick is talking about is denigrating one player to make the other look better and that type of fandom really is lame. We are talking two all time greats and both of their achievements are nothing short of amazing. I personally just appreciate the awesome tennis I get to watch from these guys.

Nadal v Federer threads, here anyways, hardly constitute debate. Debate is definitely healthy for a sport, but the number of people who view one player as infallible/immortal and all other top players as boring/lucky/one dimensional/terrible people is much higher than those who recognize how lucky we are to be watching the two greatest ever to play the sport. I think the latter is a better sporting culture, compared to the dart throwing.

There's a poll at the end of the article and Fed is in the verge of losing it. Fed fans, get over there real quick to bring your man up. Nadal fans can rest easy.

Roddick the sage. He probably would have liked to still be around in 2017. With the old guys doing well he might have fancied his chances.

An apt analogy for DRII's posting when he's on everyone's ignore list, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

ignore = admitting defeat, so I thank the multiple fedephants who realize this, such an honor.

oh and you never told me; do gnats tweet or just buzz.

You asking for help with your science project or something? That would explain your emotional maturity or lack thereof.

He needs a sense of humor, and to stop treating this place as a fanboy warzone. None of the pro players need any of us "defending their honor."

DRII and NatF are providing some great entertainment. All this over 2 tennis players that don't care a f*ck about either of these guys :)

most of the threads after fed/nadal wins aren't debates

they're public executions
