Let's face it, it appears unlikely that Djokovic will play the USO this year and even if he does, chances are he won't be reaching the latter stages. So I'm just wondering who other Nole fans would prefer to see win the tournament seeing as it's almost certain to be either Federer or Nadal holding up the trophy.

If Federer wins he'll equal Djokovic's record of winning a HC major 6 times and he'll have 3 more HC slams in total, making it almost impossible for Novak to catch up. It'd also be a 4th 3 slam season and he'd be pretty much guaranteed to finish the year at #1. His fans would also be even more unbearable but that might not be so important to you.

If Nadal wins he'll once again have more USO titles than Djokovic(eew), one more multi-slam season and he'd be favoured to get a 4th YE #1, the same amount as Novak has. Given the circumstances I can honestly say if both of them do end up playing each other in the final this year I'll find it far more difficult to watch than when they played in Melbourne, in fact the thought of it alone makes me shudder, but I wanted to find out who other Nole fans would cheer for in the event that it happens or maybe you're not that bothered either way.

Poll is up. Have at it and have fun. :D

Given the enmity between Novak and Federer, i'd have to go for Nadal.

Don't rule out Thiem. Might be the saviour.

I would presume Federer would be the common vote, with federer being way out in front, whereas Djokovic still has a chance to catch up to Nadals Grand slam tally
Yeah, this is definitely another reason to root for Federer. Be much easier for Djokovic to catch up to Nadal's slam tally than RF's.

not sure i understand the attitude necessarily of djokovic fans to federer...with every achievement of federer's, it actually makes novak that much greater...to know that he had defeated federer in key big matches. the only one to do so on hardcourts/grass...i would say its pretty amazing accomplishment...federer understand what a worthy adversary djokovic is..so much that he considers him an equal..

Lol why are you guys scared if Nadal wins the USO?

Logic would say you'd want Nadal to win because then Djokovic still has a chance to match or eclipse Roger's HC slams.

hello john snowe

it is an interesting conundrum you propose, a real Rubix Cube™

but if nadal loses it is possible for NOLE to catch up, and by transitive property would be equal to fedarer

Guess it depends on the vicarious ambition. Who is the target now, Federer or Nadal? Someone like @125downthemiddle might still believe the target is realistically Federer.
Personally I don't think either are targets. I think the target is so pitiful it is just being able to last mentally and physically for 2 weeks straight at a major.

Fed is the lesser of 2 evils here, and his records can probably not be approached anyway.
The 2 hard court Slams though is possible, even if just in AO's, but Djoker needs to reinvent himself pretty quickly.
Nadal winning the USO gives him 3, which is a worse scenario esp given all the USO final losses, I don't care about the YE#1 side of it.

I agree, and that seems to be the approach he's taking with Agassi (just to improve each day). He can do that mentally and was making inroads but physically his body is betraying him.

Yes that right arm issue is not going to go away anytime soon unfortunately. Maybe he can get it scoped and cleaned out. They do crazy stuff with tendons now. Has to be scar tissue and debris in that arm.

Keith Thurman recently had such a procedure done on his elbow.

Federer and Nadal's accomplishments don't have anything to do with my view on Djokovic's. I enjoy Federer and I don't enjoy Nadal, thus I am rooting for Federer (given the choice of those 2 at least)

damn a novak fan who enjoys fed but not so much nadal and also, based on their sig, likes novak, roddick, and stan. lmao i'm sure there are more people who do like those players, but definitely not common to see on these boards. nice:)

Why tragic? When Nole can have more Wimbledon titles with less finals than Nadal, Nadal can also have more titles at US Open than Djokovic whom he has beaten for both his US Open titles.
Because Djokovic's strokes, in fact pretty much his entire game, is just so much more suited to the surface than Nadal's. You just look at the way he plays and it immediately screams out "quintessential hard court player", which sadly can't be said about Nadal who most of the time looks like he's playing the same way as he does on clay. No ever said life was fair though.
