When is Prince Coming Out with a 97 or 98 Version of the Wonderful Textreme Tour 95?

Would buy a couple of these in a heartbeat. Demoed the Textreme Tour 95 and it has ALL the shots.
Flex - weight - balance all pretty much spot-on.
I play alot of Doubles and could really appreciate a slightly bigger head.
Prince needs a mid-12 oz performance racquet to get then some Pro endorsee's.
Putting holes in frames never worked.

I never could understand why people feel a need for an 97 or 98, when there are 95 and 100 versions...

As for your comment on Mid, no they don't need it, there are no pros currently using or wanting to use a sub 93 frame. A declining poster boy for 90 frames went to a 97 and made himself relevant again.

I think he meant mid-12oz like 12.3-12.6 oz, not that it should be sub 95 sq inches.

Now that you mentioned it, sounds right. ^
My comment would be that pros actually prefer slightly lighter and then customize and match to their preference, also known as "pro stock". Even those who play the retail frames, start with relatively light and then modify up.
For us mortals, same thing, very few want a very heavy frame, even then you need to match your frames, so the weight goes further up. It is easier to start from slightly lighter...

It worked for a quite a few pros for a decade or so.

I never felt the TT95 needed a couple of more sq inches. What it needs is a little more pop. Not asking for Pure Strike or RF97A pop, but DG97 310'sh would have been great :)

or even grommets for current frames..
so i would say..

i saw that some online tennis stores are going to stop selling Prince gear altogether. Maybe you'll never get that 97/98

I play the 100P and added 7 grams in the throat as to not alter the balance. They weigh in at 12.2 strung and play solid!

Theoretically a couple of extra square inches would give it a little more pop : ) The extra squares inches for me would make a little more forgiving and that is the main reason I would want a non-ported Textreme 97/98. Also as per the racquets in your signature, this headsize seems to also work best for my game.

Theoretically, maybe, but hardly...
Practically, some 93 frames play bigger then some 95s, some 102 smaller then some 100, etc. So if you needed slightly bigger then 95, then you'd go 100 and call it a day...

I do have the TT100P in my bag and while better than the TT95 for my game I don't quite click with it as well as my 97/98s from other brands. I wish it was simply a matter of saying 100" is close enough :) All I'm saying that if they did have a TT98, then they would have additional sales such as from myself, which is why they're in business.

I had this same thought as well when deciding which Textreme Tour to demo first. If they made a 98 with similar weight and balance I would be all over it. Still going to try the 95, I can't not.

Why not just use the 95? It works well and has quite a big sweet spot. The difference to 97" is just in your head :D

Prince has a Textreme 98" version with ports available in Japan. It's called the Textreme Tour 98 XR-J.

If you want it bad enough, you go online, and import it. I have ordered all kinds of crazy things from all over this spinning sphere :) If the only thing stopping me from tennis nirvana was a couple of extra dollars in shipping, I would easily find the money. It's a question of desire....how bad do you want it?

Prince is out of business.

OK, can you fill us in on what is going on with PRINCE then? I can't buy my POG Tour 600's Mids, anywhere retail, the oldest continually made racket--or had been up to now. Looks like they are going the way of my previous favorite shoes, the Wilson Pro-Staff Classics, that I was hoping to die in.

Word I'm getting is they've hit a "rough patch". I know a kid who got a perfect brand new one at Goodwill a while back for $5, should I start slumming for them?

What do you know?

That would be the POG OS...

So where can I find the POG TOUR Graphite 600 MIDS?

What's going on with PRINCE?

While where on goose hunts, where can I find an old PRINCE bag, from a few years back that a pro had, that was silver and green with 4 long zippered compartments?

Discontinuation of the POG mid, a near-obsolete frame nowadays, doesn't signal the end of a company. I wish it wasn't so, as the POG mid was and is a great frame.

Check the Bay for that bag. Current Prince bags don't have four full-length compartments, but they're still good quality with useful features.

Will TW carry future Prince offerings? When the commercials from other sites come on The Tennis Channel they only advertise Wilson/Head/Yonex/Babolat and the four most popular lines from each.

Tennis Warehouse is taking over distribution - that's it. Product will be of the same quality as the Textreme line, as the lead designer is still with the brand.

If you can use a 97, you can use a 95, the diffference is so small.
It's not like you are going down from 100 to 90.

Yes i can use a 95 just as I can use a 90, 100 or o/s. If you've hit enough 95s and 97s / 98s, there is a difference. Just as there is a difference between 97s/98s and 100s.

The sweetspots, forgiveness and power levels are different. You can adapt, tinker with weights, etc but as per your other preferred specs, a certain headsize usually works best for you.

As for it all being in your head, sure that's part of it, but if you don't have confidence in your strokes with a racquet then your game will suffer.

So when is this going to happen?! Hey, Tennis Warehouse, tell us Prince players what to expect? Many of us are getting nervous and considering alternate brands. I cannot even get Prince parts now. Back ordered until Sept.
Yeah, one - last year's model - racquet release after months of waiting - apparently that's how you take over distribution these days...:rolleyes:

Agree to that. I think the head shape plays a lot too. I use the PCR97 and when I looked at the TT95 I thought I would be pushing it to go down 2 sq inches. It didn't help with a more narrow head whereas the PCR97 is more round.

You get this more pop with couple more sq.inches. Plus little more generous sweet spot.

Exactly.

No theoretically, but practically, realistically and proven by tennis science. There's a correlation between head size and power.

Agree absolutely; unfortunately - although just about holy grail in every other way - my extended TT95 plays 'small'. Using the ellipse formula - which makes assumptions re symmetry, but hey - it measures as 95.85", but it sure doesn't feel it. Liking the 'narrow head' theory, especially re. PCR97.

I'm puzzled with players reporting T100p having smallish sweet spot (at least for its head size). Its twist weight is good, so it's not about instability. It's not pattern either, it's pretty open for 18x20.
My speculation is it might have something to do with the softer hoop, it's what can make a sweet spot smallish.
TT95 lacks power some, again has it to do something with the Textreme layup itself? Almost 96'' is not bad head size for the power...ok, narrower head might explain a bit of it...

The narrow head theory also applied to my brothers tour 98. It felt smaller than my PCR97 because it was so oval shaped.

Most likely because of the way the modern game relies on a low to high motion for spin so it helps to have a wider frame to maximize clean contact. Look at the new Phantom. That thing is round like a soccer ball. When people shank it's on the 3 and 9 locations so making a head shape elongated would not make much sense because that would be wasted surface area since we don't shank at the 6 o clock location. This explains why I had so much success with the prince diablo mid 93 years ago. Again another rounded head shape.

The way I understand it, it's mostly about the length of the crosses and mains at area/spot of a typical groundstroke hit contact (for this reason Yonex racquet hit bigger - isometric head shape has longer cross strings at the spot of a typical contact than usual racquet, hence it gives more power). Longer strings stretch more, and for some reasons this aids the energy return. To a degree is also how much string bed pockets as a whole, so the head size has . More movement of strings brings effective increase of head size - ports and also wide grommet holes have this effect, they let the racquet play as a bigger head size than it actually is.

This is one approach; another is to make the racquet wider earlier in the upper hoop so it doesn't look roundish but if you measure the width it will be pretty wide in the middle. And upper hoop surface is bigger in total, in comparison. This design gives even more power since the upper hoop is wider than on roundish looking racquets.

I agree: My modded 28" Tour 98 ESP feels like it plays smaller than a a typical 98", and the elongated head shape - with resulting lower bridge - means I lose some leverage on my serve compared with my other 28" racquets.
Another reason why I was looking forward to the Phantom Pro being available.

@TW Staff isn't blind that we want the Phantom Pro more than the ported model. Maybe they're encountering resistance from Prince Japan. I really don't see the Pro competing against the ported model as the power and flex are different enough. Both frames can co-exist in the same market.

I'm not sure what it has to do with Japan though.
But if the Prince brand owner (ABG) is concerned mainly with royalty cash, the question is...who pays r&d and manufacturing cost for the new racquet for the US market?
Who does it in Japan anyway? Prince on their own premises, or there's someone else with the agreement with ABG doing it in Japan?
I think this is the biggest problem, you want a new racquet, there's a development and manufacturing cost associated. And I'm not sure TW is happy to bear those as well. Without anyone doing it it's not happening.
