Looks like Cilic can be the next victim of upsets. The draw will look extraordinary indeed. Schwartzman is a good player, so maybe he can go far.

Diego, Diego, Diego . . . refusing to go away!

So many matches this US Open where the underdog just refuses to go down.

Cilic is only winning slightly above half the points when he manages to hit a good first serve.

56%.

How weird is that?

I don't remember even Hewitt first-pumping as often as these young guns today do.
Usually it's not how often you do it that irritates. It's how obnoxious you are when you do it. Hewitt was all-time top 5 obnoxious. Him and Nadal, fighting for number 1.

This is a strange USO. I cannot recall where the top men's seeds were having this much trouble in 1st and 2nd rounds. Nadal in 4-sets his first match struggled in 1st set , Fed in (2) 5-setters, now Cilic in a struggle. It's gotta be the slower surface.

True, there's a reason Chela spit at him. Just saying that he wouldn't stand out that much today with Zverev and Shapalov doing 2 fistpumps per game.

I think we are hitting the transition where we are finally getting rid of the nonsensical lostgen and have the next gen coming in to replace them. The old gen has held the next gen back for a few years now, but their bodies are falling apart, and the lostgen are nowhere to be seen, so the next gen which hasn't been around long enough and is not consistent enough to get high rankings is still playing better than the old gen and lostgen on its day.

Hoping Peque Schwartzman can pull off the upset here against Cilic. He was so close in RG against Djokovic, only a hip injury midway 4th set proved his undoing there.

Can I just say that I am officially over pink shoes.

I hate them when they match your kit. I hate them more when they don't. Feli Lopez last night. Cilic today.

Zip it,please. Why are you calling Federer fans bandwagon fans? How do you know they are bandwagon fans? Aren't bandwagon fans fans who only stick around when things are going well? Seriously, you're polluting this thread with your daily Federer rants. We get it, you hate the guy. Not sure why you have to remind us every day. It's very annoying. Take your gripe somewhere else or start a dedicated thread to express your hate.

This is a match thread and Federer isn't playng today in case you didn't notice.

Good Lord. Newsflash! You aren't the only one who dislikes or hates a player, so we don't need to hear it from you every freaking time. Get a grip!
If you don't like it don't read it.

And not all fans of his are bandwagoners. There are several "real" longtime fans of his on here like @BeatlesFan @stringertom and others who are true followers. I am talking about the insufferable group of his fans who are very fair weather and didn't really start liking him until after at least his first "down" period. Which includes the media, the biggest ones.

They act like Washington Wizard/Capitals/Redskins/National fans in that even when things are going really WELL they are incredibly negative and pessimistic and can't even seem to enjoy his success. I know I post lots of negative s--- myself but that's because things are going BAD. If Thiem of Del Potro won though I'd enjoy the hell out of it and I wouldn't spend time spreading gloom and doom worryingly breathlessly out loud about whether their next fart was going to be a dry or wet one. Fed fans (not the true blue ones) need to lighten up and enjoy the ride. You can't took the good things for granted in life because as Echo and the Bunnymen so awesomely say in song form Nothing Lasts Forever!

Cilic is trailing 2-1 in sets and a break in the 4th.

Shapo is down a set and up a break in the 2nd.

You might get it for Cilic, but Shapo looks solid so far.

Cilic just double faulted on break point, lol!

Scrappy Diego Schwartzman is no up 2-1 and a break! This is awesome!
